For me, it's Opening Day.
By the time the Series comes around, it's down to only two teams. On Opening Day, however, every team has a chance, and we haven't had our optimism beaten out of us. It also signifies the coming of summer - or for those of us way up north, the breaking of the river ice).
I love the World Series, but it doesn't compare for me to the coming of a new season.

For me personally I say opening day unless the Orioles are in the world series (which I have yet to experience, their last world championship came in 83 I was a year old).
I remember this year going to opening day where I believe the temperature was in the 40s perhaps. It felt like going to a football game, I even had my Ravens heavy jacket on sitting in the upperdeck dealing with the swirling wind.
But here where the Orioles fresh off beating the Yankees two games out of three in New York playing their first home game. The stadium is packed, the fans are ready for some baseball after the winter. In any stadium I don't think you can beat that, I would have gone if they where playing in a light snow fall. If you love baseball, you know that fans everywhere on opening day have hope. And the hometeam usually wins, the Orioles where no different.
Off the top of my head I believe they beat the Tigers 6-1. Cal threw out the first pitch, it was a great day for Orioles fans no matter how the season ends.
On opening day fans of baseball everywhere have hope for their team, in the world series fans of baseball everywhere watch the world series, but only those who have hope are the fans who root for one of the two teams still playing.

Opening Day....I can count on my team not getting to the World Series. To me Opening Day is the day of dreams (which recently has always been shattered) pondering with other fans in the stands on what the boys of summer have in store for us.

Opening Day is the right of spring and the World Series is the beginning of the fall or winter months. It all depends on the team you root for. I actually look forward to both because I realize once the season begins, the weather will get warmer, as it ends, the seasons get colder. It is all in how you look at your specific team.

Opening Day. Opening Day is full of mystique and wonder. We don't know what the season will be like, and how many memories will be made. This could be our team's year, or their could be a Cinderella team. The World Series is great, but what does it mean if our team isn't in it? Our dreams have already crashed and burned.
