Do you mean the same Public opinion which burned to the stake possibly millions of women around the world and said good riddance to bad rubbish? Do you mean the same Public opinion that keeps building housing for millions of American inmates? Do you mean the Public opinion who voted in Bush Cassidy and the Some-Dance Kid? I could go on and on but I would only get myself in trouble with Public opinion. Cheers!

Yes. The only thing you can use public opinion for is a guideline. If everyone thinks you are a bad person who uses and abuses others, perhaps it is better to rethink your life.

As an alternative if everyone thinks you are a kind, giving person, you are probably on the right track.

However if you have one, or even a few people who state you are bad, stupid or whatever. Ask them why they say that about you. If it is a valid reason then try to change for the better. If not, do not worry about it.

If it gets to the level that someone is defaming you and their statements are false, then sue them for defamation of character. This would apply if their defamation has caused you a loss of business or a need for psychological medical care as a direct result.

I'm with Amanda there, she's right...truth always has a second face :)
Consider the undeniable fact that all of us are social beings, we're not alone, we live and interact with other people, all the time, everyday, people who in one way or another eject an influence on us....it'd be a lie to say that we dont care what others might think at all!!!

You might have your own opinions and defend them, and live according to them, but you cant live completely aloof from the world and public opinion...

It's a complex matter if you're not open-minded, but you should consider that the only thing that matters is NOT to take issues to extreme positions: neither ruling your life by public opinion nor ignoring it completely....the best thing to achieve happiness is balance...

I personally don't give a rat's a*s if someone thinks I don't dress fashionably or my hairstyle isn't current (I hate short hair - I have my whole life) and now that I'm 48 I'll wear it longer if I like. When I retire, I'm growing a ponytail - probably not getting an earring though - I still think that's gay for a guy to wear

I think that's partially true. You can never change yourself so that everyone will like you, so you might as well be yourself. However, I think it's very difficult to judge yourself impartially. If a lot of people are saying something about you, then you should at least consider why.

Yes, I agree.
Dressing as fashionably as possible or having the best things will not make you any better of a person.

yes. I do agree with that, maybe it depends on who are the people, who gives their opinion, and it also depends if I will take their opinion, because I am still in charge of myself, and besides I do know myself better than them... ;)
