Because corporations want to maximize their profits and minimize their expenses. Politicians want their election campaign funding. The big corporations send their lobbyists to ensure that nothing gets done, or the laws work in their favor. Politicians do nothing except concentrate on who gets in power. Nothing else.
Meanwhile corporations get bigger and bigger until corporations start approaching the wealth of countries and democracies. Walmart, for example is China's eight biggest exporter.
And we get "Low Prices Always" while our countries get sold to the highest bidder. China exports our raw resources, and back come the shoes, clothing, electronics, lead-tainted toys, poisoned pet food and other "Made in China" junk, along with a massive trade imbalance.

Jorge Bush cares more about Mexicans than he does about Americans.
However, please lay off the top 1% of Amricans. Not only do they pay over 85% of the taxes but they also HIRE the working Americans. Without that top 1% there would be fewer jobs and less tax revenue! While we are paying maybe 20% between Federal & State, they could be paying over 55%. They also don't get many deductions we get!

Would you care to cite some examples of any nation in any point of history that has improved its economic position, and the standard of living of its poorest workers by enacting anti-trade legislation?
Bush put those huge tariffs on steel production, do we have a booming steel market now, or does it just cost more to undertake construction?
I'll be waiting..(but not holding my breath)

The USA's economy is actually really good right now, corporate power as at its highest. Though as far as protecting the working class goes, the answer is a bit upsetting:
None of the "big guys" actually care.

Quit buying any product made outside of the united states. By the way, that 1% you are complianing about carries over 70% of tax burden, so I would ease up a bit.

As long as everyone keeps shopping at wal-mart and buying foreign made, off-shored products jobs will be lost and benefits will be streamlined.

The economy in the US is the best in the world. It is better than it has ever been. You are complaining with nothing to complain about.
