I heard about it on tv show. On she show they put dried apricot in the heating vent. Do people really do this? If so, is it safe, how do you do it and what other fruit do people use?

I would not put any food product in my ducts. You are inviting (and feeding) insects. I am sure it was done for fragrance but, to me, it is a stupid idea.

I've never done this or heard of it but it is possible and would work. After all, dry warm air is dry warm air no matter where it comes from. All you would need to do is open a register vent that's in the duct work. Not all systems have these though and it could be in the basement or attic depending on your house.

But really all you need is access to a space large enough for the amount of fruit your trying to dry. HOWEVER !!! The inside of duct work is FILTHY. Years of dust and dirt have been collecting inside of these. Even if you change your air filters regularly.

Therefore...you can do it...but I wouldn't want to eat anything that was dried that way. And it doesn't bother me to leave my dirty dishes in the sink for days!
