What size tank do you have? Most people have Betta's in tanks under 20 gallons and a pleco is not suitable for any tanks under 55 gallons really. Please consider that pleco's grow to be about 2 feet in most cases and you need to give them space. They don't always grow rapidly however and if you put them in a 15 gallon tank, just make sure that you have a bigger tank to move them to when they outgrow that tank.

Fish that can go with Male Bettas are any fish that are not fin nippers or have big fancy fins and tails. You cannot house any other Betta with a Male Betta. Females can be grouped togeather though.

I'd definetly agree about the Goldfish. Two problems with that. Goldfish are coldwater fish and Betta's are tropical so compatibility there is not good, and Goldfish are greedy eaters, and would probably end up eating all the food before the Betta could get to it. In this case, you'd need a seperate tank to build up for tropical fish. Nice catch

bettas are tropical fish, goldfish are coldwater fish. they cannot be kept in the same tank.

if you plan on getting a common pleco, i hope your tank is 150 gallons or more, they can grow to over 2 feet.
there are many types of plecos that do not grow that much, you should do some research for smaller plecos.

it all depends on what size tank you have, and the personality of your betta.
i have my betta in a 10 gallon with 4 albino cories.
you could keep smaller tetras.
you can have really any type of fish, as long as its not aggressive, looks like a betta (long tails) or is very active (like danios)

check the links below. you might want to go with a smaller algae eater than a plecostomus (like shrimp or snails). Plecostomus can grow to a size that a minimum tank size of 40-gallons is required. And a goldfish requires a minimum tank size of 30-gallons.

betas are fin nippers so you dont want to put any thing with it that has long of flowing fins plecos are fine but if you have a small tank may i suggest a bristles nose catfish they do an excellent job on algae but only reach 4 inches in length where as plecos can get to be over a foot

I've had a plecostomus with neon tetras, Platties, Swordtails,
different kinds of cichlids,NO PROBLEM.
Plecostomus, by the way are the best algae eaters.

semi aggressive fish, gouramis, barbs, sharks. No fish with fancy tails. They will aggitate the Betta & it will attack. Also, algae eaters, upsidedown catfish, clown loaches, plattys & molliies . Just remember, plecos get huge.
I have a 36 gal. octagon tank & all my fish get along fine. Just remember, no fancy tailed fish.

i have four gouarmis with mine, a plecostomus, neon tetras, a guppy and a mollie, and the biggest gourami actually picks on the betta and the betta is scared of the fish now.

Here is a link with compatibility chart for bettas
http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=16&cat=1918&articleid=2200

If you are thinking about a common pleco, you need to have at least a 40 gallon tank
You could go with cory cats like a pepper cory instead

Also all these fish above need a heater, so leave out the goldfish

Hope that helps
good luck

zebra fish or minnows could live with a nice betta but definitely no fish with long fins but they are better off on their own
