I'm 6 1/2 weeks pregnant. I've been taking prenatal pills for 2 weeks. I sleep about 9 hours a night and start getting tired 2 hours after I wake up, and my eyes stay heavy all day until I can go to sleep again. I can sleep all day. I know I have to be anemic, and my first appointment with the doctor is next week so we'll find out. The prenatal vitamins I'm taking now contain 28mg of iron - how many mg of iron did you take? Maybe I'm not taking enough iron? Thanks.

You know for sure you're anemic or are you speculating? Because from what I understand the first trimester of pregnancy comes with a great deal of fatigue...I am 5 weeks along and I am tired constantly...so I think it's totally normal unless you know for a fact you are anemic....

I'm currently 17 weeks pregnant with my first. I only take the iron that is in my prenatal pills (plus extra folic acid...the prenatal pills only have around 600mg, and the docs reccomend 1000mg when preg.)
That doesn't really help a lot as far as how much you should take, but I wanted to post about the sleep thing...I was SO fatigued in my first trimester too, and it's just part of the pregnancy. Your body is growing the placenta, and takes a TON of energy to do that. The tiredness reduced drastically a few days into my second trimester. (Though it can occur at any time, body's doing a lot of work!)
However, I'm not saying you're NOT anemic, but if I were you, I'd check with the doc first. In fact, I would recommend calling them or going to ER if you think you are..from what I hear, it can be severely bad for you and baby if it's not treated.

I take 650 mg of iron a day. It causes constipation somewhat. But if you take too much iron you will be badly constipated. Wait until the test results come. They will tell the dr how much extra iron you need if any. I'm anemic and I wasn't really tired just pale and not entergized. Being tired comes with pregnancy.

I accept as true with whoever stated to name a being pregnant hotline. Too so much iron is solely as unhealthy as too little iron. It is absorbed and saved through the frame, now not flushed out like plenty of different vitamins and minerals. How a ways alongside are you? It's now not till later being pregnant that you want plenty of additional iron to aid your blood quantity develop. Prenatal nutrients most often have a adequate iron content material in them for non-anemic females. You can get those over the counter at such a lot retail drug and grocery shops. If you are early for your being pregnant, you have to fear such a lot approximately getting ample folic acid to aid avert distinctive spinal twine beginning defects - prenatal nutrients also are fairly prime in that. The best time I've ever heard of anyone having to take an iron complement furthermore to a prenatal diet used to be after they had been real anemic, and at chance for headaches throughout supply from blood loss. You will have to without doubt uncover out extra approximately this, for the sake of you and your little one. Good success and congrats!!

I take 28 mg plus an iron supplement on top of that. I became anemic at 12 weeks because of severe vomiting and I'm carrying twins.

It's totally normal to be that tired until 12 weeks. Don't take any additional iron until your doctor tells you.

You sound like a normal pregnant woman to me. I was so tired in the beginning with #2 that I would literally just fall asleep sitting on the sofa. Unless you've been diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia I would stick with what the prenatal vitamin supplies. Iron poisoning is serious and also extra iron can cause horrible constipation....

You sound pregnant, not anemic. Its TOTALLY normal for you to be exhausted all the time. Your body is burning sooo many calories and using SO much energy to get that baby growing.

Prenatals have all the iron you will need while pregnant.

DO NOT take extra iron, iron poisoning is NOT something to fool around with when pregnant.
