I will put it in perspective for all you Crosby fans! Yes he is the future and yes he is the one of the top 5 players in the league today, but look at it this way!
I would have to say Datsyuk, he is looking at about 1 mill a year and Crosby is looking at about 2 mill a year. Yes, I think crosby will put up more points. If you look at there stats from last year, your looking at 33 point difference. but with the extra 1 mill a year your looking to sign another great player that could put up at least 60 point a year, with that I think both players would put up more points then crosby! So, I say Datsyuk!

This is a tougher call than some Crosby supporters think for one good reason: salary cap. Crosby is, by far, better than Datsyuk... but Datsyuk and $2 million added to the salary of another star player next year might make things swing the other way. That said, I'd still probably take Crosby. A sure thing Crosby for five years is probably still better than an inferior Datsyuk who chokes in the playoffs and $2 million that could just as easily be wasted on raises for several role players.
And all this is coming from a Wings fan.

Well according to sweetsharpservices I'm calling my Dr. to get my head examined but when I get done there and the Dr. says I'm fine I'm going to tell you this.
In these days of the salary cap you need to make your money count. With Datsyuk you're saving 2 million a year and have him locked up for 2 additional years over what Crosby is locked up for. So now you have that 2 million to spend on an additional guy that you don't have with Crosby on your team. Datsyuk started out a bit slow last year but I think he has found his stride and will move up in the scoring stats this year a significant amount.
While Crosby is going to lead the way on the ice from an offensive view Datsyuk is a better two-way player and that is something you can't discount at any price. Additionally, with Datsyuk, your virtually guaranteed that he will never take a stupid penalty. In 2 seasons Crosby has 170 PIM and Datsuyk has 97 in 5. Crosby did cut him PIM significantly over his previous season but still had 3 times the minutes Datsyuk did.
Don't get me wrong, Sid is a great player and will do wonderful things in this great game but if I'm spending the money IN THIS SITUATION I'm taking Pavel.

Crosby...the better player
To Flames Fan.
In each of the last two years, Sidney Crosby has scored more goals than Pavel Datsyuk. As well as having more assists. In fact, Crosby has almost as many goals in the past two years as Datsyuk has in the last three (only ten less) and almost as many assists in the past two years as Datsyuk has in the past three (only 10 less).
So, in the past two years, Sidney Crosby has 20 fewer points than Datsyuk has in three. Just more ammunition in taking Crosby.
Datsyuk in 5 seasons has a career high of 30 goals. Crosby, has never had fewer than 36.

I completely agree with you. Crosby is overall the better hockey player and most of all he is the captian of his team and Datsyuk is not. I would take a captain over an assistant anyday. Crosby knows how to lead and play by example and in the playoffs that is the most important. Datsyuk is great don't get me wrong, and this year he single-handedly kept the Wings in that playoff series vs. the Sharks and after 2 rounds he would have been the Conn Smythe winner. But in this case, Crosby has never really disappointed in the playoffs yet and he is the best player in the world.

Sidney Crosby. Saying he can't score is ridiculous; he can embarrass defense and goalies alike, he just has a "pass first" mentality. Crosby will make unknowns good and good players even better. I definitely would take Crosby and his contract over Datsyuk. There is a reason Pittsburgh was over 50 points better last season than last. Sure it wasn't ALL Crosby's doing, but he sure did quite a bit.

I’ll take Datsyuk because he’s cheaper, and won’t have the pressure of being the next savior of the NHL and to also produce ridiculous #s, plus win a cup within the next 3 years. Plus he’s a lot more humble.
Sorry people. Hate away. I think Crosby is awesome, and could really turn the game around. But he comes at a cost. Both monetary and w/ fame/attention.

call me crazy but i have to say Datsyuk. and people are goign to call me stupid or bias but i have my reasons.
for one that is an extra 2 million for another good player to play with and two good players is better then one good player! and then you have to count in Datsyuks defensive play. he is a better more complete player then corsby. don't get me wrong, crosby wins offensivly by a landslide. but datsyuk has offensvie talent AND defensive talent . look at the plus minus. Crosby had a +10 datsyuk had a +36. so as a complete player i take Datsyuk but if i just want a pure playmaker i would take crosby.
