Anyone here have resources that could help me trace a family name back to Charlemange? I have been unable to trace it directly from Charlemange so I was wondering if I could work backwards?

Caveat: Be forewarned that this genealogy quickly focuses (in Generation 12) on William the Conqueror's ties to Charlemagne. Accordingly, as a bonus, readers will be able to trace the lineage of Elizabeth II of England as well as most of European royalty. The rest of us also probably link back to Karl der Grosse as well.

Robert the Bruce is my ancestor, thus through him, Charlemange is also my ancestor.

If you are able to trace your ancestry to the Royal Stewart/Staurt (Auchinlech) clan in Scotland then I could help you to trace it back to Charlemange from there.

If your family has been devout to a religion for a really long time, you can use info from your church to help you. LDS members are very into geneology and use church records to help them trace their family lines. In most cases, you always work backwards. Just see where you end up. It's cool to see who's blood runs in your veins. :) Determine who in your family is related to Charlemange and follow their path upward.
