I just recently moved out of an apartment because the landlord failed to make any repairs. One of the issues I had was with the keys used in the front and rear entrance of the apartment. Both used outdated skeleton keys and I was always thought that they were illegal in Chicago. Can anyone confirm this? I am preparing my complaint and would like to indicate this issue.

Skeleton keys are certainly not illegal in Chicago. While they don't provide the greatest levels of security in today's world, they ARE a door lock which cannot be extremely easily opened.f

If you don't want to be laughed at, don't include this one in your list of complaints.

The door the the Oval Office. I'd give George Bush the swift Kick in the pants he needs! And tell him to wake up and start running this country like a man with a clue.

I don't think that security is a legality in landlord/ tennant situations. Unless, your lanlord had maliciously given you those keys to harm you.

illegal ? wow...not sure ...but definetly unique.

i would call your local housing authority. i am sure there is something about providing a 'safe environement' - which would include proper locks on the property.

good luck...let us know what you find out....this is interesting.

:)
