In Greek mythology, there were 9 Muses, immortal daughters of one of the immortal Titans. Each muse had a science or art that they were protectors of -- and therefore were inspirations for.

So the term today means to be the living embodiment of creative inspiration for someone, usually an artist.

(If you ever see the movie Xanadu, Olivia Newton John plays Terpsichore, the Muse of Song I believe -- on roller skates!)

I've always taken that to mean that I some how inspired someone. I believe that a Muse is someone or thing that guides another down a certain path in life's journey.

It means that something about you inspires a creative impulse in them. Many artists have had muses - Picasso was one.

Just like Jacob said.A muse is the inspiration for what the person is doing whether it be writing,painting,music etc...
