Yes I try to treat others as I would like to be treated. Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if everyone did? (((sigh)))

The Golden Rule gives a means to determine the right thing to do. However, it does not give us a motive to do the right thing, i.e. it does not tell us what reward we will get.

Most of us get a good feeling when we help others but good feelings alone do not make much of a foundation for doing the right thing.

The Golden Rule comes from the Bible, Luke Chapter 6 and Matthew Chapter 7. Both give the authority behind the GR. Luke says, "and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest". e.g. you will be a child of God. Matthew says "for this is the law and the prophets.", e.g. God commands it.

So, yes, other traditions have versions of what appears to be the GR but without the authority behind it, they are not the same.
