After reading and posting here on Yahoo, I think we need to have two separate catagories. One for real horse people who want to ask real questions and get good sound advice from knowledgeable horse people and one for all of the "My Friend Flicka" set. That way they can ask and tell each other about how horses are abused and trainers cheat at shows and because of it their horse got the gate, how all the halter horses that beat their horse is on steriods, how they are going to the Olympics in 2016 on their ponies, and can post endless questions about what color their horse is and how great the conformation is, what perfect riders they are, how they sit around every night on the porch and sing kumbya with their horses while they plan their next million dollar foal from the stallion (who was a rescue from the killer house that they helped close) down the street that they got a free breeding to. Cannot wait to see these answers.

And this is my point exactly. There are a lot of us who have worked hard and been there, done that. We have shed the blood, sweat and tears. And when we tell someone how it works in the real horse world, we get accused of being cruel and heartless. I have answered questions about conformation and gotten told by people who cannot judge a horse by anything but color tell me I am stupid and mean because I stated that their horse was less than perfect. I saw someone tell another that her horse got beat in halter because all halter people give their horses massive amounts of steriods. Did they ever think that maybe their horse is just not halter horse material? Some of my best friends are halter horse people. They like seeing me enter my roping horses in their classes. Does it bother me to get beat.? Because I live in the real world.

As Lisa M stated, I to have gotten emails from people who have told me that I was a "B***T who should have my horses taken away because I stated that you needed to pop a horse in the nose for biting. Instead, they suggested, let the horse continue to bite until he worked out his anger issues. Kind and gentle words should be used. Never agression. And they even suggested anger mangement for me. Now why did I not think of that?

Rockerchis, I do see your point. But the My Friend Flicka bunch is just as bad about thinking that they are far more superior to the rest of us since they have been to all of the clinics and bought all of the videos. Then they post a questions and go off on you when you tell them something they do not want to hear. Because in their mind they already know the answer. They just want everyone to agree with them. I have seen the "kids" post questions about how to improve their riding and they are good questions. And usually get good answers. But there is also a bunch of them who carry around a bratty attitude that they don't mind jumping down your throat when you say they are wrong or their horse is just like everyone else's. Average. Do you not agree that they need to get off their high horses also?

This is my definition of a real horse person. Someone who is willing to learn something new everyday that they own a horse. People who never stop trying to better themselves and the breed. People who are willing to learn from mistakes and accept criticism from those who have been there before them. Who are willing to ask questions and accept all answers on their merit whether they agree with them or not. And not jump down someone's throat because they answer is not what you want to hear. Case in point: I always wanted a top halter horse. A top halter man told me the horse (who I loved) was a POS as a halter horse. So I had to accept the fact that she would never win and pursue another event, or sell her and find one that would work. But I did not tell him he was a lying, cruel SOB and go look for someone to tell me what I wanted to hear. Monty Roberts was told the same thing by Don Dodge. That two of his training horses were crap. And he dumped them and look where he is today.

To finish the thought: Good horse people listen to each other and learn forever. I have learned things that I did not know from here. Others just want quick fixes, free training, sugar coating, and justification on everything they do or say. And then want to blame everyone when they hear the truth or things do not go their way. And what happens is you see them telling someone something that could get them and a horse injured or killed. And when a knowledge horse person speaks up, they get blasted. The whole point of this question was to make everyone think about some of the answers that they post. And the attitudes that we all have (myself included) about being right or wrong. Maybe Yahoo should get rid of the tumbs up / down and letting people vote of best answers.

Lisa my black beauty breyer soooo stomped all over yours!!
Ok Lisa, you made me feel like a ravenous wolf now---- heres duct tape (camo of course) for Ken's demise :)
I think that these people should specialize in breyers if they already haven't.
If you want a trainer, the Bratz girls are spetacular I hear.
That way, if you need a vet, its right there, barbie vet!!!
If you need a farrier, why theres farrier ken!!
If you want babies, well by golly, you just go to walmart or local feed store and buy them!!
Then there won't be any worries about overpopulation and unwanted horses because, instead of slaughterhouses, you just sell them at garage sales!
That way, we won't be ravenous wolves to those that ask such stupid questions and refuse to get real professionals out.
Seeya :)

I actually aspired to the Olympics...twice. Each time I had a horrendous accident shortly thereafter, last one has had me in a wheelchair for 2 years and finally starting to walk on my own since January. The accidents were of the freak nature, BTW... Anyway, I don't even aspire to WATCH them on TV anymore. Jill? Am I missing something? A good horse related series of books??
Seriously. My horses don't know what steroids are and I don't care who's in my class, we show honest and welcome the competition. Some questions are truly troubling here and others are out and out rants. It's a chore wading through to stuff I know something about and can share on, so maybe a split would be nice, but also in dogs and cats with a health section, training section and general section. Is that dreaming like going to the Olympics? I better update my health policy! I do have a stallion who cost one arm and a first born child, have mares from top of the line stallions to share him with, but breed only rarely. Just gets me when people keep a colt a colt cuz it's manly, breed for the kiddies' edification, buy a baby for their first horse since they now have property in the country. Don't think it's easy to change these types. Are they the Flicka's? Or am I????

This is a great question/gripe but think about it. Yes, some questions leave me going OMG not they didn't but some are really good..like the ones I ask! haha I am kidding ya'll. We all learn somethings from here, splitting this up would not do a dang thing b/c my little pony/bratz/barbie and ken/my friend flicka would still post on both parts. I get sick of It's my first show and a show name and all that but when I see it, I just don't look at it! You gatta pick your battles. Just don't look at them but know that someone will and help those people out.

The only way to educate people is to keep repeating the good stuff. So everyone should have a say all together, and eventually some people reading answers here will come to see the things that really work and those that don't. banning people for being ignorant just helps them to remain ignorant. And only you know you are right, everybody else knows you are wrong :-)

i love the term "my friend flicka" for that set of people, it fits perfectly.
I dont think the My Friend Flicka crew would get the point, the scary part is I am sure that these people consider themselves to be knowledgable...
But really, me and my fat pinto pony really are going to the olympics, I trained him all by my self using only carrots and hugs...ha
As a side note- I read a question on here about someones horse that took off bucking, some genius actually suggested that they turn their horse out for a few days wearing the saddle! wtf is that? This is the type of advice that will get someone's horse killed. I think many people on here need to understand that if you dont know, dont post something that is blatantly stupid and dangrous. Admiting you don't know something makes you look so much more credible then talking out of your a** just to give an answer.

I would love to split the category into three:
1. Medical / Horse care in general
2. Riding/Training
3. 4H / Pony Club / OMG It's my first horse show what do I do
I don't really read category 3's questions, I'm just tired of slogging through all of that My Little Pony crap to find the real questions worth answering. Category 3 is what pony club handbooks are for...
Also, all Howrse questions should be banned. Grr.

I'm not quite sure what you mean? I have my Breyer horses out at the minute on my desk and Moonlight and Stardust are competing for the World Championship in Showjumping after beating each other by a head in the Derby. I always keep my Jill books close by and am currently engrossed in "Jill's Gymkhana" - it has it all - thrills and spills and I just can't decide if she will pull it off and win the potato race or not??
Does this mean I will be segregated and sent to another board - oh please tell me that's not so! I've got to dash as need to get on Howrse!
Talk later..................

Just because some of you want to think you are far superior horsemen/women on here doesn't give you the right to criticize the ones who don't know as much or have as much experience. The entire Yahoo Answers community has stupid questions posted in it, not just the horse section. Besides, if the my friend flickas didn't post them, all you know-it-alls wouldn't have anything left to answer....if you haven't noticed, half the questions in this section that you think are stupid, you also can't resist posting an answer to. Suck it up already...stop acting like your horse $hit dont stink. You too were also in the my friend flicka group when you were growing up, as are most of the 12 year olds who post on here. This forum is for helping to spread knowledge. If you hate it so much, stop coming on here. Get over yourselves!
I didn't literally mean 12 year olds....just teenie boppers who love horses....GEEZ, quit being so technical. We were all one once. Let them dream about the Olympics, who cares. Just because the terms of service don't allow 12 year olds to post, doesn't mean they don't. I know I'm gonna get abunch of thumbs down for being so to the point and saying it like it is....but everyone on this forum needs to lighten up....if you don't like someone's question about saving the horses or the one's where people want to brag, then it's simple...DON'T READ THEM! If you've put in the blood, sweat and tears to get where you are, then you should know to IGNORE those who are oblivious to the real world instead of griping about them. So you pop your horse on the nose for biting....big deal, it's your horse and you obviously think that's what works best for your situation. You could be the mature one and ignore the nasty emails or you could report abuse on them if it bothers you so much.....I guess the old "sticks and stones" saying doesn't apply to everyone. Good God Oh Mighty....sometimes I wonder why I'm even a horse person.......sighhh
Of course...I think everyone needs to get off their high horse whether you're 12 or 50! This is a place for horse lovers....novices, my friend flickas and professionals. It's frustrating to see such a great divide in the category. There's been so much credential bashing on here it's just annoying...I think I'm gonna take a break from this for a while!

i see your point. but i think you need to realize that no one is perfect. ive worked with a lot of horses and now i own my own. but there are tons of people who can ride better than me and tons of people that i can ride better than. either way i would call myself a horse person. so if you don't like a question just dont answer it.
and by the way what is your defination of a real horse person?? cuz you just total us what wasn't a horse person and your wrong about some of it.

You think this doesn't happen in dogs and cats too? Besides the crowd you are talking about won't make the distinction.
Ignore the questions you don't like or take an opportunity to nicely educate someone.
