It's my family reunion and we're going swimming. I don't want to seem like a dud by not swimming but I also don't want to announce to my family that I'm on my period. I REALLY want to swim but I can't use a tampon. Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks so much for your feedback guys. I appriciate it.
Yes I've talked to my mother. Though I'm not sure why that matters as I am old enough to make this choice on my own. Geesh.
And I actually CAN'T wear a tampon. As in doctor says no. Yeah. It sucks.
Thanks again. I guess I'll just bring a book to the pool.

Swimming with out a tampon is a no no!! Have you ever used a tampon before?? If you haven't i understand that it may be a scary experience. but it is really not that hard. just relax your muscles and follow the directions. Its something your going to have to deal with all your life, so you better start now. you are not going to want to have to use a pad forever, a lot of women prefer tampon (including me). Also you say that you don't want to tell your family, but you should be able to talk to your mom about this. She is or went through it just like you are. She is the source of the best period advice around, so trust her and don't be embarrassed. By the way if you are looking for a good beginner tampon try Tampax pearl, i have found them to be the most comfortable. GOOD LUCK.

There's nothing else you can do.
Don't go in the pool without a tampon, as you will bleed into the water. If you use a pad in the pool, it will swell and might burst, so the stuff inside it could spread. That would be quite embarrassing.
There's no reason why you can't use a tampon. Just relax your muscles. Use one of the slender regular tampons, too, as they're easier to insert.
Good luck.

im sorry but as far as i know there isn't a waterproof pad or anything you could use, short of a little kids swim diaper. if you find tampons uncomfortable try using a slender fit which would probably work better with your body. if you can't do that, try to not be a dud by just sticking your feet in the water or something.

Why does your doctor say no tampon?
There are moon/diva cups that you can try.
Other than that no swimming.
You can just say you aren't in the mood to swim, or just don't feel good. Or snack the whole time (good snacks!!) and say you shouldn't swim because you are eating.

Good grief.
Please, please don't swim without a tampon. Would you want to swim if you knew others were swimming without a tampon?
What does your mother say about this? Have you asked her?

there are things that are similar to a little cup that you essentially just put into your vagina to catch the blood. later, you can just kind of dump it out. i'm not sure what they're called or where you get them. unfortunately, they may be more uncomfortable to insert than a tampon...

You are just gonna have to tell them. They should be mature and understand. Your period is just part of life as being a woman just like breathing is don't worry about it.

WELL,DEFINITELY DO NOT SWIM BECAUSE ITS VERY BAD TO DO THAT BECAUSE OF YOUR PERIOD OR JUST TELL THEM "THE REASON WHY I CAN'T SWIM IS A GIRL THING THAT'S WHY". AND YOU SHOULDN'T CARE IF THEY LAUGH. YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO GETS IT EVERY GIRL GETS IT SO DO NOT BE EMBARRASSED.AND IF I WERE YOU I WOULD ONLY USE A TAMPON WHEN YOU ARE SWIMMING BECAUSE TAMPONS TRAP YOUR BLOOD AND IF YOU GO SWIMMING WITH A PAD THAT'S A NO,NO BECAUSE THAN YOUR BLOOD WILL GO FASTER!!! SO GOOD LUCK =-)

Maybe wearing a very thick pad with coverage at the bottom (like a depends) so it doesn't leak through and fall apart and wear a pair of shorts over the bathing suit...other than that, not really...u will bleed in the pool.
