Are you kidding me?!?!?
no contest, sauron would kick some sorry little magician butt!
He rules so much more land and has so much more power, and is so much more evil and he reincarnates himself as an giant all-seeing eye!!
Think about it...
Harry Potter vs. Voldemort, Harry holds his own for the first bit, then defeats him in the end.
Harry Potter vs. Gandalf, Gandalf would own.
Gandalf vs. Sauron, Gandalf doesn't even try to fight him! He could barely beat Sauraman!
So, logic dictates that Voldemort would crumble into dust and then cry like a baby at the first wink of Sauron's fiery gaze!
Great Q! you get a star, buddy!

First off, I am the one who asked the question about Albus Dumbledore VS Gandalf the Grey. I now answer this with a question: does Sauron know of six syllables that will instantly kill anyone? Also, consider this: Sauron poured his soul into one ring...Voldemort poured his soul into several hidden items. Assuming that there is no soul-dividing and it is one-on-one to the death, Sauron can swing his staff around all day long...but all Voldemort has to do is mutter "avada kedavra", and BOOM! Green light, no more Sauron, the ring is now Voldemort's...evil rules...and no midget is going to stop him. Ironic, though, that a nerd with large round glasses finally triumphs...but if Voldemort had the ring...he should have screwed the Elder Wand and sought after the One Ring. Then Harry Potter would be dead.

I love this question!
Now... let's see:
Voldemort was finished by a boy.
Sauron by the doings of a hobbit.
So far, here we have a tie.
Now, I do love the Harry Potter stories... But I honestly thing that Sauron would kick Tom Riddles butt!
I find Sauron far scarier and I take it he has way more experience than Voldemort.
He didn't split himself into 8 things because he knew that was way too twisted! His soul is more solid than Voldemort, so that gives him an advantage. Also... he doesn't need to mutter things or a wand, he just needs... a LOOK!
Sauron wins. Period.
Goodluck!

Sauron would win. I think I say that mainly because Voldemort was pretty much useless with no body, but look at all that Sauron did without a real physical being.

WOW.
Sauron would definitely win, he's not even human, and he's POWERFUL.... Voldemort is still human, and his evil isn't that EVIL. Voldemort's spells would probably bounce off Sauron's being, and Sauron wouldn't even blink, who is the one who created orcs, perverted mankind, etc.? Voldemort only terrorized people, and killed people here and there, Sauron pretty much took over Middle earth, among other things.

Sauron would win, hands down as Gandalf would also emerge victorious. I think if you did another poll you would find the people who said Voldemort and Dumbledore would win are in their teens, and the grown - ups would pick Gandalf and Sauron!

Since you have read the Lord of the Rings I assume that you have read others in the series. Wasn't Sauron the protegee of Morgoth who was one of the Valar? What if Voldemort and Morgoth fought? I think that Morgoth would win. But I think that Voldemort would lose against Sauron , but just barely.

In a straight on duel, Sauron. But if Voldemort knew about the ring, then he could have done what Frodo did.
