Unfortunately there will always be people out there who enjoy, or at least don't have a problem with animal cruelty. While it's likely that this fact will never change, what CAN change is the cruelty toward animals by industry, farming and commercial ventures. People need to be eductated on where the products they buy actually come from. They need to be willing to support the companies that use cruelty free practices in their production, and stop spending any money on those that don't. That's the biggest way we can change these things. Eg - if people didn't buy furs, seals wouldn't be killed. Of course, there are going to be animals that are still killed for food, or culling (kangaroos are not killed for fur - that's a by-product of culling for population control). People are always going to eat meat - it's unrealistic to expect the world to become vegetarian - it just isnt' going to happen any time soon. So, kinder farming methods need to be encouraged, so farmers can still make a living doing the right thing by the animals. Again, essentially, it's up to consumers to do this. If we aren't willing to pay the extra $ to support the more expensive, kinder farming production practices, then farmers will go broke, and cheap imports will take over the market. People aren't powerless - if we care, we CAN change the world for a lot of animals!

There are a lot of things you can do depending on how involved you want to be.

You can delibrately avoid buying products that are known to be crual to animals in some way.
Battery eggs - veal - goose-liver pate etc.

You can ensure you use only cruelty-free cosmetics - personally I love Beauty Without Cruelty make-up, Natural Source shampoos and shower gel, and Body Shop perfume.

Many household products are also tested on animals - choose a supermarket who are opposed to this like the Co-op.

You can support a charity like the RSPCA who fight against animal cruelty - or you can join active groups like PETA, BUAV, SHAC depending on what aspect you want to push most.

And if you want to physically do something, volunteer at a local rescue centre - they always need the help.
You can help with the day-to-day tasks such as cleaning, grooming, dog-walking if you have the time.

If you do not have the time for this a small thing that is very helpful is to give all your old newspapers to your local animal rescue to use in the litter trays.
I collect them from all my family and the rescue say it helps them a lot.

You can also keep an eye on pets shops who are selling animals as very often they are keeping them in cruel conditions. If you see this you can contact your local council and report this to help them.

Start your own website, and get a business card (I would go to vistaprint.com for the business card) and give out lots of them (Make sure they have your website on them). Maybe at work/school, ask the principal/boss if you could put up some posters to stop animal cruelty. You could also put up some posters on the street, if you wanted. I'm not sure if this would help majorly, but it would be a good start.
I totally know what you mean...I love animals, and I hate to see them being treated like that!
Hope I helped!

Good for you! I've seen some of those videos and they really are sickening. You can join the RSPCA as a campaigner and as a supporter and also become a friend of the RSPCA. Click onto their website RSPCA.co.uk and follow their leads. You can also keep your eye on your neighbour hood and everyones pets and if you suspect cruelty you can ring the number on the RSPCA website for your area and someone will investigate it. You'll find it a very enjoyable pastime and its also very worthwhile. Well done.

I really and I mean REALLY wish you could, but as long as there are idiots like Michael Vick, the world will always have some bozo torturing poor defenseless animals, WE ALL have to try to stop bad things in the world, but ONE person (like you) could be the start of stopping things like animal cruelty, poverty, and violence through warfare, all in all I hope you can help stop animal cruelty I believe in you!

Try and raise money for a society like the RSPCA where they can go out and save animals. Then they can employ more people to do it and so more animals are saved more quickly. Or you could even go and work for somewhere like this yourself. It's really nice that you want to help, so the best of luck to you!

Don't go over dramatic right cos you don't want to end up in jail!
Don't buy battery farm hen eggs.
Notify the police or any anti-animal curelty hotline if you suspect any animal you know is suffering abuse.
Donate to an animal charity (the 2nd link)

Be vigilant, report any known abuse to the authorities. Try volunteer work at an animal sanctuary, or rescue centre if you want to help with rehabilitation or rehoming.
