Whenever the world decides to have just one government, the US will be merged

I assume this'll be after a major cataclysmic event, such as World War Three, an alien invasion, or the Simpsons going off the air.

Any of the Liberals who blames the Conservatives or the Conservatives who blamed the liberals and any of the people who blamed Clinton or Bush, are all so un-American and short sighted as to be fools.

America can never fall. We are not a country. Our borders do not define us. we are not marked by an ethnicity or a religion. We are not the people of a land.

America is an ideal. America is a dream and a dream can never die. Oh the physical nation may vanish. Our gleaming cities may fall. The people living here may be disbursed though out the world. Our Constitution may be rent asunder. Our economy may collapse. Our military may fall.

But that would never destroy America. The very name may be struck from the records of history. The legends of our past may be dismissed but that will not destroy America

Years and decades and centuries may go by where no one speaks of America, where freedom and liberty are long forgotten.

But some day, some how, in the hearts of men, the spark of freedom will always beat. And like fire in the night the glow will grow and grow. And once again America will live.

America Fall? Never. Not as long as one person's heart beats with the need for freedom.

"Government of the people, for the people and by the people will not vanish from this earth"

"Conventional wisdom" says the world has a 40 year supply of oil. However, we have had the same "40 year" supply for decades - we just keep finding more oil. America imports about half of its oil, and could switch to more domestic production if the price of oil stays high. By contrast, Europe and Japan have to import almost all of the oil they use. We do need to move away from petroleum-based fuel to something cleaner and hopefully cheaper. Petroleum is also useful for many things besides being burned as fuel. Have you or anyone you know invented fusion power? Are you opposed to nuclear power? Your stated opinion that America's decline began in "the early 1980s" (after Reagan was elected) betrays your left/liberal, anti-capitalist, anti-western political slant. Are you someone who believes the USSR (mentioned in your question) really was the "workers' paradise"? Would you even pose this question if a Democrat were in the White House? America is in a continual state of revolution and renewal - the old regime "falls" every time we have an election and the incumbent finds himself/herself out of office. It is a self-renewing system that will very likely go on working as long as the neither the extreme Left or the extreme Right manages to seize overall power. A real revolution (the shooting kind) will be needed if that happens.

It won't happen from someone else attacking us. And, it won't happen by some Revelations B.S from the Bible.
It will happen by economic implosion and system entropy with a weakening economy and a huge gap between the rich and poor and a huge reduction of the middle class. Individual debt and national debt will increase dramatically. Our own selfishness and unwillingness to change will be our own demise. It's already happening. It will then sink into a huge recession or even depression and it will effect the rest of the world economies as well. It will happen no matter who we get as president, but if we get a republican president it will just happen faster and harder than with a dem. America is on a decline and the economic numbers and sinking value of the dollar is proof of that. I don't like sounding pessemistic but this is the reality of it. America is in it's twilight years if not the beginning of it's own dark ages. The Bush administration was the start of it and it has pushed us into that territory faster than previous administrations from Nixon on up. Unless we change the way we do business in this country and the way we treat the poor and middle class in this country, we are going to sink further. All the money that is going into the military and Iraq right now should be going into our own country's future, our infrastructure, our education systems, our healthcare, and our children's future. We need someone as a leader who has a vision for the future, not a vision that is recitivistic that reverts us back the the 1950's to the present mentality of over consumption and fossil fuel energy. It won't work.

Review history and you will have your answer. It rots from within with extremist behavior from any political side. America's legacy will be proven has hopeful but the grand experiment from a fresh start turned into what its founders tried to escape from. The world will go on just as they had their turn in the past.

It could be happening now. If China decides to stop playing American banker, the economy will be in disastrous trouble. If the neocons are able to continue stealing elections with rigged voting machines, the public will lose confidence in the democratic system and the rule of law. If the US continues to thumb its nose at the world, the world will retaliate militarily.

In retrospect, the legacy will be mostly positive except for the last bit. It was a grand experiment and a heck of a good run.

If, and it's a Big IF, America should ever fall, it will be because the citizenry has followed the present trend: ie; not bothering to vote, suppressing free speech, listening to the negative campaign ad's by candidates that have no position, and want to run on the opponent's shortcomings.
I personally believe that our Constitution is a divinely inspired document, and that some higher power has guided us to become this great melting pot of ideas and people!

Some people believe, as I, that the decline of this society began a long time ago with the introduction of the 60's.

Moral decay, like tooth decay, is slow and unrelenting, especially when we keep filling ourselves with sugar coated misconceptions of Liberty and Justice for all. And when the toothaches begin, we simply rub the hypocrisy of this societies morality on our gums to deaden the pain. It's fast, it's simple, and it gives the impression that everything is just peachy keen!

One day, the tooth will fall from the rest of them and there will be no replacing it.

The PC crowd will undermine the US by protesting every move we make to try to better this country, and keep it from falling.
