I've read everywhere that you should use first morning urine when taking a pregnancy test...
But I was wondering, what if you don't wake up till sometime in the evening? [night shift schedule]
Is it the same thing?
And could a kidney infection mess with your results?

Just curious, because I'm almost a week late, which is really weird for me...I had AF like cramps for about 4/5 days sometime last week, but the pass few days haven't had any.
And my boobs have been sore for a week now...which is really weird for me. I don't even get sore boobs before AF. They're kind of swollen and I have a lot of blue veins.

But I got a negative test 3 days after I was supposed to start my period.

I don't know, I'm just confused.

Maybe I just have my hopes too high since I've been TTC for soo long.

First morning urine is just a way of getting women to use urine that has been held for at least 4 hours and they didn't drink anything during that time. It just ensures that the urine is concentrated. So, really you can test anytime, just hold it and don't drink for at least 4 hours. I don't *think* the kidney infection would interfere with teh results of a home preg test. As for your symptoms, it really sounds like pregnancy is a possibility. Make sure you are using a very sensitive test-- go here to see all the tests and the levels they detect www.peeonastick.com

It used to be recommended to pee on the stick in the morning as that is when your urine is most concentrated. But thats purely because you haven't had a drink peed or (I hope) all the while you've been asleep, probably 6-8 hours. If you have your 'big' sleep at a different time, thats fine just do it when you wake from that sleep. These days the tests are pretty sensitive, I remember peeing, sitting there working out that I was late, having my tummy to turn to jelly and dispatching hubby for test. Then I could'nt pee, so I drank a pint of water, peed about 1/2hr later and got a +ve result.

I don't think an infection should give a false result. Make an appointment with your GP to discuss the possibility of pregnancy (the symptoms do sound +ve), kidney infection or other reasons for you being late. They can take blood for a more accurate test, some people naturally have low HcG levels.

I hope its good news, fingers crossed!

i`m a nurse so i work night s too. they only say to use early morning urine as it will be more concentrated because you`ve not been drinking all night.
in your case because you work nights then the first wee you do when you get up in the day will be the same as an early morning specimen!
alot of your symptoms do sound like pregnancy symptoms. try doing another test or ask your dr to do a blood test & check that way.
i really hope that you get a positive result after trying so long, let us know how you get on. sending loads of sticky baby dust your way.
edited to say that a kidney infection would not affect the results. also if you think you have a kidney infection & you do have a positive test then see your gp asap for some anti biotics.

As long as you have slept for a few hours you will get the best results from the test, morning or night. It sounds like you have a good chance of being pregnant. I don't think having a kidney infection would affect your results so go ahead and take another test. Good Luck :)

Morning urine is when you wake up no matter what time of day it is, it's still your morning right!
HPTs measure hCG which is a hormone produced only by pregnant women so a kidney infection will not change the results of the test.
Are you taking any medications for the infection? I know my cycle has been knocked off kilter before when I was taking medication.

if you sleep all day,you will have the same result when you wake,as you would have waking in the morning,so don't worry!.it just means that the HCG levels are stronger when less diluted,as they would be during your waking hours .you can still test throughout the day,it just means that the pg test would be easier to read on waking.if you test during the day,and are very early in the pregnancy, you may get a false negative.
I am not sure if the kidney infection would alter a result.,but i doubt it.i have heard that some very strong drugs can give false positives though.

it's not really about the morning urine. it's about urine that hasn't been diluted with liquid for a while and has had time to build up the hormones. Since most people sleep normal overnight hours, they reccommend morning. Take it whenever you wake up. That's when you will get the most accurate results. But truthfully, if you are a week late, taking it any time of day should light your stick up like christmas if you are indeed pregnant. Good Luck

you only need to worry about first morning urine if you're testing early before your period is actually late.

a kidney infection wouldn't mess up a pregancy test, but it would delay ovulation which would delay your period. So, if you had one between periods you might have a longer cycle than normal. Which would explain a neg test and still no period.

I would test every few days until AF comes, but that's from a confessed pee-on-a-stick-aholic.

I took my test in the middle of the day and it came out positive. I was only two days late and took a cheap dollar store test to find out. It really doesnt matter what time of the day as long as the hcc hormone is there. hope that helps.
Good luck

Some tests do say its best to do first morning urine because there is more hormones present. But with both of my pregnancies it was all afternoons that i done it and both were positive and correct. Good Luck x
