I was out last night & saw this guy with a bandana of the Confederate flag. Not only did I want to rip it off his head & hit it with him but I was so hoping that a black guy who saw it would beat him to a pulp. That unfortunately didn't happen but am I one of the only white people who feels like wearing a sign telling the south that they lost the war so get over it?

I live in Michigan, and I find that people that display the confederate flag here tend to be lower-class undereducated white people (also known as "white trash"). I'm not trying to generalize, it's just an observation. I don't get offended for racial reasons, I just think that it's kind of stupid to still dwell on a war that ended 142 years ago.

I live in California so I've never seen the Confederate flag raised, but as an American citizen who believes in equality. I would find that downright offensive. The south broke apart because they were pro-slavery and the north was against it. The civil war was fought to end slavery and reunite the country, to see someone raise the confederate flag is pretty wrong in my opinion. But then again, It's all a matter of perspective. They could just have it raised because it is part of their and Americans history.

I fly it every day and take great joy in pissin off the whiny liberals so concerned about others feelins. Most people black or white don't have the foggiest clue waht that war was about. They saw a few movies made by liberal hollyweirdos and have an opinion based on that. we have become a majority nation of low to zero information people who go out of their way to be offended by any and everything. so t othose that don't like my flag i say........ fvck em.

I wear Confederate flag bandannas, myself. But, then, I'm an unapologetic Southerner. The Confederate States of America revolted for the SAME reasons as the United States revolted from England.
Anyone who thinks the war was about slavery (as the questioner obviously does, by hoping a black man would institute violence against the "offender") needs to do some reading.
In fact... read the Emancipation Proclamation and ask yourself why the only slaves that were to be freed were slaves in states STILL in rebellion at the time of the reading.
Ask yourself why states that were already re-conquered were specifically excluded from freeing the slaves.
Ask yourself why the several Union States that still had slavery as an institution were specifically excluded from freeing the slaves.
Ask yourself why, if the war was about slavery, did it take Lincoln into the third year of the war to so much as consider the slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation....
Ask yourself why, if the war was about slavery, did Lincoln have this to say on the subject: "I would save the Union. I would save it the shortest way under the Constitution. The sooner the national authority can be restored; the nearer the Union will be "the Union as it was." ... My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that."?
Answer those questions for yourself, honestly, and then talk about how much you hate the Confederate flag.

NO, nor do I take offense at seeing a Nazi flag -- I DO take
extreme offense with individuals supported the Nazi platform.
The Confedracy is no more and we are all one US of A now.
Thunderscream explains why there should be no animosity
towards the Confederate flag by fellow Americans -- it's
a wound that should be healed by now and not festering.
There should be sincere respect between the North and South.

No, I don't get angry, just puzzled that people still want to wear something that can bring up difficult feelings to manage. The Conferate flag is very much a part of our American history and isn't all negative but the guy wearing it as part of his accessories probably holds beliefs that are very biased in nature.
I would like to think that we have grown as a country (and we have) but unfortunately there are those still out there toting Redneck Ways and there's nothing we can do about it except smile and move along down the street. Why encourage it?

my family fought in the civil war just like they did in the Spanish American war and WWII and i did in this war my family wasn't a slave owner my family has always pasted down that it wasn't about slavery and they didn't know anyone that owned slaves but what they did know was the north was telling them what they could and couldn't do and in the south most men have pride and when you step across that line we get mad
but i take great pride in the confederate flag the folks like myself dont approve of what neo nazi's has done with OUR flag and we are vocal about it but no one wants to hear our side so next time you get mad at that flag you think about the poor southern families that suffered through a war along with our northern brothers over something that could have been resolved with proper negotiations

Your disdain for the confederate flag might have the same basis that African Americans have disdain for people that dressed up in white sheets. Hopefully you and they will come to the realization that they are simply symbols, and not to be empowered by negative feelings. They are only as powerful as one allows them to become.

Uh, yeah. We are not the Confederate States of America. They lost the civil war. They need to get over it. There is no place for that racist symbol. However, at least you know who the racists are if they have that flag. It's like an announcement...I suppose that way at least we can combat it. I mean, it's a free country, but I don't like it one bit.
