Sort of. History does not exactly repeat the way it is written down. But there are many parallels. take the Vietnam war, 1) protested by the people. 2) Presidents did every thing they could to get the country into the war. See the likeness? Of course we're not spitting on the troops that come or anything like that but there are parallels. The 1970's are another example. 1) inflation. 2) Gas prices rising way more than we are used to paying. 3) terrorist threats. Again the circumstances are not the same but there are parallels.

But one thing you can really truly count on is the fact that we are all human and are bound to make the same mistakes. Just maybe not in the same form or way.

How many wars have there been to claim land and power? How many wars have there been in the name of religion? How many wars have there been fought in the name of greed? How many of these wars were fought because of our own Ideology? Do you really think we can keep from at least mirroring the past?

I find that that would be impossible. We can try and make educated decision. But somewhere along the line History will repeat itself in some form or other.

When we are so stubborn to think, we already know it all.. We sadly learn, we don't.. and, thus set in motion the natural course of things to happen.. history repeats because mankind truly hasn't got it.. Gods laws are the same and always will be, break them ... go to spiritual jail.... consequence.. Everything in nature has a balance, as does the laws of God and mankind. ..
When that balance is off, it is sort of reset to the starting point..
Just like breaking the laws of mankind, stop us.. hopefully to correct the path we might go that is out of balance for us.
If mankind doesn't learn the awful truths of what prejudice is and does, or labeling and judging falsely, stereotyping, etc. , believing one culture or race is more superior, we will never have true peace, equality, or end of conflicts.
History repeats.. till we chose to change.. and , yes.. i would rather it repeats and let us know where we are , than blindly believe we are alright in the world and let it go to pieces more than is.. But, i have faith.. and hope we will be greater , do more the next time around..

Certain events throughout history have been strikingly similar, but the idea that history repeats itself is questionable. The causes of World War I and World War II, for example, were different (although, if anything, World War II is best viewed as "The World War, Part II").

The historian Daniel Boorstein wrote "History does not repeat itself...but it rhymes all the time." He may have been playing a game of semantics, but I agree with his sentiments. The direct causes and effects of historical events are never exactly the same. Still, certain themes are constant (good/evil, greed, ignorance, arrogance, progress, etc.), and we seem to repeat the same mistakes...but under differing circumstances.

NO! History is much to complex to repeat. When their are similarities some recite the mantra: History repeats it self. But it cannot be true, the sum of all the factors create a different history. The mantra is simplistic for non thinkers.

As one of my history professors once said: "History tends to have events that are similar to past events, but history does not repeat itself because time and those involved are not the same". I think he is correct. However, there is a lot of truth to George Santayana's quote: "Those who fail to learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat it."

In one sense, it does sound like repetition and, in another, it never does so. History is too complex a phenomenon to be ever duplicated but the thread of human spirit running across it provides some similarities and produces some uncanny resemblance. That's why, the saying goes on.

Yup. Just read your history books. They repeat themselves. Somethings don't repeat, and almost nothing repeats exactly the same way, but there is "nothing new under the sun" as they say. We just find different ways to do the same things.
