Seriously, I just read an article that indicates that office bullies tend to be the type of people who get promoted to the top ranks...if this is the case that is pretty alarming.

If you stop and think of how stressed one can be thanks to work, how it affects our emotional and physical health, you would think that everyone would strive to have a positive, intelligent, and people motivating person to be the head cheese and not the tyrant with the whip....what are we living in a third world country?

Thoughts?

Well I must say, as someone who has supervised people I was always a softy, and if anything they walked over me. Mind you I never got promoted beyond this either (but I didn't want to be with the corruption and bullies either and was happy in that great little world while it lasted) and you know what, "my girls" never let me down, not once. We all gave and took and I never docked them for being late or anything because they were good people. I later was transferred when the place downsized to the office from HELL. There was no productivity and everyone hated each other and after that I quit, never went back and work for myself. Who needs that? Would rather live a simple life that sacrifice myself to that.

I have met many people who were made ill by their bosses. It is a common problem but it has been for years. It is allowed to go on because a company is only interested in making money and people don't count, however productive they are. I can't see how the problem can be solved, specially since the study in the story showed that the bad bosses climb the corporate ladder. I guess it's a warning not to take a career as too important - it's better to have peace of mind.

Perhaps I'm not understanding your examples. If you have chest pain that you are worried about, see a doctor. A very easy task I'd imagine in a hospital. Then double check your job description. Are you being paid to make/take personal phone calls? If not, then why object to her objections? The best way to battle her is to perform flawless job performance. Then those around you will see who the employee of real value is. You get your promotion and move out of her control. This has worked in every job I ever held. I hope it works for you too.

Absolutely! I worked for a nightmare of a boss, he is bi-polar, and I didn't realize the toll it took on my physically until 2 months after I had left the company. No one, I mean no one, shouldhave to work for a boss, or a company that allows it, who is a bully or a tyrant. Life is too short to put up with that kind of garbage.

I fully and completely agree. However, for some reason, the top management teams always seem to lose sight of the fact that if people are not managed right, then business is not managed right ... and these days, with the way business seemingly is managed from what we read and see in the media - we have a lot of non - people people in charge !

It just goes to show you evil, always gets ahead of good. If your a good boss you don't get promoted but if you bad enough you will. That mean bosses gives you high blood pressure, enough headaches to last a life time then he gets promoted, sounds like a dumb idea to me.

Please tell me where to find this reading. I agree. Work depresses me. There are so many asssholes here that get whatever they want and walk all over people like me. I'm so sick of it! I agree with you about the characteristics that SHOULD qualify for the promotions. I think my bad bosses are definately messing with my head.
