All you need now is a simple siphon cleaner- under $10 at most pet stores. It will suck the bottom clean for you and at the same time, remove some water so you can add fresh water.

If you have a good filter, you can do this weekly or less often.

You should notice that without the debris-trapping gravel that your tank smells and looks cleaner longer!

Why are people taking out the gravel in there turtle tanks???
They need it to keep a good water balance. This is were your good bacteria is coming from people. Put it back in and if the reason you are removing the gravel in the first place is you are worried about them eating it just make sure it is large gravel they wont touch it. Most pet stores sell it in bulk bins. You can still use a tank vac or siphon on the gravel works even better, since that is what it was made for. Sorry if I am coming across as mean its just I don't understand WHY people are doing this, makes no seance to me.

that isn't dust, it's turtle poo. Gravel is important because it traps the poo that the filter cannot handle. I would say put the gravel back in. A good way to clean your turtle tank is by siphoning out water into a bucket. You scrape the bottom with the siphon and pick up gravel bit by bit. The "dust" as you called it will go up the tube and into your bucket. Just discard and pour in fresh tap water.
