When you see cows lying down in a field, it is sometimes said that rain must be on the way. Apparently, the cows sense the dampness in the air and are making sure they have somewhere dry to lie. While many animals can indeed sense changes in the weather before humans, this particular prediction proves wrong as often as right.

Like many small creatures, grasshoppers are sensitive to changes in the weather, chirupping louder and louder a the temperature rises. The chirupping is not actually a song, but the sound of their hind legs rubbing rapidly against the hard front wings.

it extremely is a competent question and merits a extreme answer.....for as quickly as in my existence. in case you look at a cow's legs, to the bare eye they look very comparable to yours, or mine in that they appear as if a flesh coated bone encased in pores and skin. under the microscope nonetheless, the mushy yet all important adjustments are made sparkling. The cow's leg is easily a micro-porous shape. It has the flexibility to soak up large parts of moisture very right this moment. while rain is impending, the relative humidity tiers improve, for this reason the air is retaining plenty greater moisture. for this reason, the cows legs soak up this moisture and, as with maximum ingredients while soaked in water, start to melt. at last, sufficient moisture would be absorbed to melt the cow's legs previous the element the place they are able to nonetheless help the load of the cow, and it will have no selection yet to lie down only earlier this element, or cave in. presently after this time, relative humidity tiers will attain the element the place rain will start to fall. 'dangle on' I pay attention you're saying, 'i've got seen cows crossing streams, or status in boggy floor. clarify that away Mr clever-clogs!' properly, my chum, the reason lies interior the character of micro-porous ingredients. on an identical time as the cow's legs are surprisingly absorbent of moisture at a microscopic point, macroscopic parts of water would be washed quickly over the legs in plenty the comparable way that dry baked floor, on an identical time as being absorbent, will enable a heavy downpour to run off the outdoors extremely than soaking in.

They don't. It's a myth. Some cows will lie down before rain, most don't. Some cows will lie down before sunny weather, most don't. Cows cannot predict the weather, they react to it.

According to the old wives tale, they lay down supposedly to make a warm piece of ground for themselves before it rains and turns cold or to mud.

I think your referring to the old farmers myth.

When bad weather approaches, flying bugs stay closer to ground level and cows just want to get out of their way, or they just know, and want to keep a patch of ground dry. The rules either way don't really work.

because they are tired or they just want to.

apart from that it is a stupid myth that means they want to get a dry piece of land before it rains.
