A paint job can be anywhere from a few hundred dollars (for a scuff and shoot type job such as Macco) to tens of thousands (for custom and trick paint work)
The cost depends on the quality of the job, and the condition of the vehicle. Chips and scratches must be sanded and blended. Any body work must be done. If you paint over flaws in the body, the flaws will show in the new paint!
Without seeing the vehicle, it is hard to tell what a good job will cost!

That depends on what kind of paintjob you want.
When I was into 4x4s we used spray-paint because after the weekend we could fix any scratched.
If you are looking for a good and cheap paint job I would spend 3-4 hundred.
This is last a year of two and will chip and fade.
If you want a quality kick azz paint job that looks factory and will last a long time it will be 6-8 k custom colors and designs go up from there.

What mdswoosh said. But even if you do it yourself, you need a paint sprayer, and generally buckets of good car paint cost anywhere between 40-60 a gallon, and for a wrangler you'll probably need 4 or 5 gallons.
Not to mention you'll have to sand off the old paint yourself.
