I can't imagine it happening here, at least in the foreseeable future. There is just too much of an attachment to American football, and both basketball and baseball remain far ahead of soccer (futbol) in the American public's eyes.

It's not a knock on soccer, which is a great sport. It's just that the others have about a 100-year head start in the popularity game, and they're also far ahead in the marketing of their sport. Perhaps Beckham's arrival will help, but I don't think he's going to make a big difference in a short time. Plenty of kids play the sport as youngsters, but they're lost to other sports as they grow older.

Perhaps, but not realistically in your or my lifetime. The Beckham thing has already died out, and it was the only chance MLS had. Sports enthusiasts that aren't me don't seem to care much for it, and most young sports people are taking the same path. It is on par with Tennis, Swimming, Cyclying, Track and Field and Lacrosse at this point.

NOPE, maybe if there was no NFL or NBA or MLB or NHL. I live in Wash D.C. and im a Chelsea fan and i have yet to meet another fan of any team or league. I try to tell my friends about how cool it is they pay me no attention. So nope its never gonna be big here in USA unless all american leagues go on strike at the same time!!!

It will remain the most popular sport worldwide, but in the US it will not overtake Football (American), Basketball or Baseball. Or for that matter Golf or Nascar.

I don't think it will be as popular as American football, but I don't it it will become one of the most watch sports in America.
