MOST legit insurance companies will let you get (PAY FOR) a rider to cover additional equipment.

There is usually additional coverage available for custom,or additional parts.
If your insurance company does not offer this type of coverage you may want to change companies.
I had Progressive insurance a few years back and even with the additional coverage I still had to sue when my bike was stolen. Even then they managed to short me 8-10 grand.
AAA will insure your motorcycle as an addition to your auto policy. They will cover up to 30,000 for a bike (if you have all the paper work to verify the value). I pay 1/2 with AAA ,about $485.00 a year for excellent coverage as opposed to almost $900.00 with Progressive who does not want to pay any claims.
Who ever you insure through,be sure to save all receipts for parts and service. In the event of a loss you can always challenge that the (adds) increase the actual cash value.

My insurance company added a rider to my policy that covers all optional equipment. It was only $2 a month or something like that. Apparently, my base policy only covered the basic bike. Windshield, saddle bags, chrome, aftermarket seat, etc., weren't covered even if the bike came that way from the factory.

Some insurance companies allow a certain amount of coverage for aftermarket add-ons....it's never enough to cover the cost of replacing the parts but it does help.
I use Allstate and they allow something like 2-3K worth of coverage for "custom" parts.
Make a few calls...do a quick search of the web, you may have to change companies to get the coverage you are looking for.

Not much unless you have extra coverage for aftermarket parts. Some ins. companies offer extra coverage for aftermarket parts, but generally require pictures or receipts. If you have an accident, you could contact an attorney and send them threatening letters. It may get you an extra $1000 to help cover the cost.

do your homework. find out what the insurance covers up front. for instance, my Progressive policy covers up to $1000 of after market. I also pay for replacement cost. Progressive will also cover your riding gear like leathers, boots, gloves and helmet if damaged in an accident.

I have progressive for MC insurance. It is a custom bike that I built myself so they told me to take a picture of it and send it in. I'm also supposed to get it appraised. Ask them about appraising your bike.
