I'm sure long term people are dying from the bad air in the big cities in China. I visited Beijing not too long ago and I literally could feel the soot in the air going up my nose. It was awful. I've never seen pollution like I saw there. Here in the US, our big cities have some smog, but nothing like what I experienced there. It should be interesting to see if they try to clean that up somehow before the Olympics next year.

There is still a lot of trees to produce oxygen in China, but it's now half industrial and half woods. In Hong Kong, with the bicycles and the big population density, it might be difficult to breathe during the summer (like it used to be in Downtown Mtl and many others).
