Is this a gold plated medal or the 1986 five dollar commemorative gold coin issued by the US Mint? If it is plated then it is only a novelty piece and not worth too much. If it is the commemorative then you are looking at $150 to $160 retail. A dealer would offer you less since he can only sell it at the $150 or $160 price.

If you can't tell which it is then take it to a dealer and see what he says or look on Ebay and compare your piece to the commemorative pieces sold there.

Good luck

If it actually says 22kt on it, then it is a medal not a coin. If it is only plated, that plating is so thin, that it is worth only a little for the gold, usually less than a dollar. The medal sold back then for a lot more than it would ever be worth. A collector of Statute of Liberty items needs to be found and he may pay up too $5 or so, it depends on it's size, the larger the more one would pay. When it comes to items like this, there are no price guides and one must find a person interested in it, that has become easier with the advent of Internet auctions. Hope I have helped some here.

I'm sorry but it's worth whatever you want it to be. whatever you sell it for is how much it's worth
