All these Bonds defenders know their guy is guilty, so they have changed strategies and have begun attacking and accusing pitchers of steroids. For a pitcher to get a Bonds-like boost from steroids, he would have to suddenly start throwing 150 mph! Your thoughts?

The biggest benefit is that it would help them recover quickly between appearances. If you've seen pitchers after a game, they're often wrapped in ice and will take days to fully recover. Steroids help by speeding up that recovery time, and by preventing the usual breakdowns caused by wear and tear. It's really that benefit, more than any added speed on their pitches, that helps guy at this level.

As for the increased strength steroids bring, it will help build muscles that affect pitch speed. You won't see guys going jumping from 80 to 100, but you also don't see Bonds cutting his batswing time in half. A difference of even a few miles per hour could be of huge benefit to a pitcher.

I'm not a Bonds defender - I don't know any facts either way - but it's a fact that pitchers too would, and have, benefited from steroid use. Think Jason Grimsley, or the pitchers who have been suspended. They use these things for a reason.

This line of thinking makes me think that you think that it's not as bad for pitchers to use, or, if a pitcher that has some record in baseball or is a HOFer, but has been found to use steroids, that we should look at him differently than we do Bonds and give the pitcher a free pass.

It would help a pitcher just as much or more. He could pitch longer every game, he could be alot fresher after resting just 3 days, and yes, he could throw harder and faster.

Steroids help a person recover from muscle usage. Pitching a baseball takes a lot out of a person. The steroids help the muscles bounce back quicker and make the pitcher stronger. If a picture is stronger he will be able to throw more pitches. This would give the picture an advantage in stamina. It also helps him recover from the damage done to his arm from pitching. Often pitchers have there arms in ice of 2-3 days after pitching to help them recover. Steroids aid in the recovery process and give a pitcher an advantage!

Are you kidding? Steroids can definitley help pitchers. It can take players that have a max 88 mph fastball and take it up to 95. It can take puny little high schools into big muscular pitchers. Of course Bonds is guilty. But so are a lot of other people. There were many pitchers that did steroids and many that are suspected of it.

As the season goes on they will not lose stamina like the other pitchers that aren't on steroids. They are able to have their arm feel like it was in spring training when it's october. This gives them an advantage because they won't lose any velocity on their pitches like the other pitchers who may be tired are. Between starts they will also not have to do the same type of stretching, icing, and conditioning that the other pitchers do so they have more time to focus on the actual pitching giving them another advantage.

Just like with Bonds, you get over injuries and fatigue more quickly. Many players used steroids and did not get bulky. Bonds, Giambi and others worked out more, cause you can when your on the stuff. The years Bonds was hitting so many home runs, he didn't suffer from the dog days of Summer like most sluggers do. Clemens probably was on the stuff too, which may be why he got better with age.

It's not about a huge boost in speed from a pitcher's (or batter's) standpoint, but rather a reduction in healing time. If you can recover in a quicker time, you can work longer and harder and become even better at what you are doing in a physical sense.

Steroids cause your body to repair more quickly and efficiently. This means that you can build muscle more quickly. Muscle may equate to speed and power for a pitcher. Cost/benefit?? Since connective tissue does not repair as quickly (even with steroids) you run the risk of severe damage to your rota-tor cuff by over strengthening your shoulder muscles disproportionately to cartilage.

That is in addition to the possibility of shutting down your natural test. production and being addicted to roids for years. Uncommon but possable. Also acne on the back and possable erectile difficulties later in life.

Well, that's why pitchers take steroids: so they can throw harder. I mean, Tom Glavine said it himself: If he and Greg Maddux were going to enter the MLB draft, they might not get drafted because they don't throw hard
