I'm not sure what "taking the mickey" means, but the internet would likely reach too broad a group of people. Is there a hospital in the area which might help? If what you are looking for is space, often the local malls will have a community room where you could meet. See if the local radio stations will let you do a public service announcement about this.

Rather than putting an advert on the Internet why not contact people/places that have contact with young disabled people and ask them to give out flyers. If you can just get around four people to meet then they will all have contacts and the group should grow. Try contacting a church or something like scouts to see if they have a room you could use.
I do hope you manage to get your group up and running as it sounds a good idea.

Is there a youth club near you. Maybe talk to the leaders there and see if they would help you set up a meet for local disabled young people.

try social services or maybe get in touch with a charity like PHAB, AFC or KIDS.

Good luck and congrats on doing something positive for your local community.

You could ask your local church for help, or is there a local community centre that may have rooms to use and the facility to promote it. You could also ask the local paper, free press or whatever if they would put something in. There was a programme on BBC (it may still be on) I can't recall the name, but you may have seen it, you could always email them for advice.

Good luck with setting it up. I hope that you manage to get something sorted.

Write to your local paper and ask them for advice. Tell them you have approached the Local Council but they won't help.

The paper may not be able to help either, but I bet the Local Council will have a change of heart!

In addition to the other suggestions, you may have a local volunteer co-ordination agency who may be able to help. Also if there is a local specialist school they too would have contacts and may have space.
