That is too much formula - but not unheard of. A woman who had her baby at the same time I had my daughter said her son was drinking 2 cans in one day... and one can makes 24 ounces. So, her son was having 48 oz. Just ask your pedi about it. They would have much better advice than anyone here can give you because they know your son better than we do.

When mine was eating too much formula (and that sounds like too much by my pediatricians book) I did this (and I had to start at about 6 weeks). I gave him one eight ounce bottle every four hours to get him to eat more at one time (see below). I did NOT give in and give him a bottle when he was hungry. After a few grumpy days he sucked down his 8 ounce bottle every four hours (except for at night when he slept all night). The next week when he started wanting more than eight ounces at a time or eight ounces every couple of hours, I put a little tiny pit of cereal in his bottle so it would last him four hours. My doctor said this was better than feeding him too much formula.

My six week old wanted to eat too little too often because he had surgery at 4 wks old and the recovery process involved very small frequent meals. As soon as I put him on the 4 hour schedule, he started sleeping through the night.

There is nothing wrong with training an infant.

that sounds like way too much formula for an 8 week old. i think on average a 2 month old should eat around 24oz a day.
i would tell his pediatrician how he is eating.

two month olds tend to eat about 12 times a day or better. He's eating nearly 4 ounces when he does eat, which is on the high end, but not out landish.

Talk to his doctor is you're concerned.

have you tried adding a lil bit of baby cereal to his formula? maybe that would make hmi feel full longer.
