This is one of the many freedoms we have in America. However, this has another side. Whoever is being accused, especially if there is no evidence & they are not arrested or if they are aquitted of any wrong doing, they can sue the people who brought down their good name. It is called slander & is a solid basis to be sued. It is better to keep ones mouth closed unless you know something & then, you should only talk to the police and/or the lawyers.

It doesn't seem right does it but it's been going on since man climbed down from the trees!
In the notorious 'Witch Trials' it cost people their lives!
There are laws in this Country about accusing people either by spoken (slander) or written (libel) comments, which some answerers on here should remember! Of course it's easy when you can remain anonymous but people are guilty of doing the same thing to Gerry McCann without any evidence as they seem to think He's doing to Murat! Al Fayed says He thinks our Royals murdered his Son and Dianna SO people here say Yes they did with no evidence to support it or to even suggest it was murder!and poor old Georgie Bush as been accused openly of killing thousands of his own people!
Perhaps we ALL should think twice before judging others or jumping on some really rickety band-wagon!

you can accuse anybody of what you want, but beware the consequences, if you lie. some time ago i was accused of rape, by my girlfriend at the time. we had had a fight and she told police i had raped her.,which was a total lie. the ploice asked her when and she said 3 days previously. we both had to have medicals and the report came back as no injuries on either party NO EVIDENCE of rape, yet i was still charged. At court the judge told her to withdraw the charge or he would do it, as in his opinion it was an obvious case of'hell hath no fury like a woman scorned; she withdrew immediatly. the judge then asked the crown prosecution service (this is the UK), why they had made a case of this when there was absolutely NO evidence at all, and it was obvious why she made this claim. The CPS stated that they always charge so as not to discourage women who have been genuinly raped from making a statement. So basically what they say, is they dont care whether the man is guilty or innocent, they will leave that to someone else to decide, they dont want to offend women. DISGRACEFUL

No people can't just accuse others of crimes openly, they run the risk of being sued for libel or slander. They can suggest that someone may know more than they are saying, but it is up to the authorities to find and produce evident.

You would think not, but the Anti McCann hate campaign seems to take no account of such minor things such as EVIDENCE and PROOF.
They seem to feel it is OK to continue to make often vile and nasty innuendo and veiled accusation, not just about the parents but they spread there nasty posts to the whole family.
They seem to feel it is OK to speculate with regard to the guilt of the parents in the complete absence of any proof or evidence......
Sad really.
They even get humpy when you refer to this ongoing madness as a Hate Campaign, what else can it be in the absence of any PROOF or EVIDENCE.
Lastly I think there is a big difference between discussion and accusation.

No. Newspapers are very careful and use the term 'allegedly' a lot, or say things like...he was arrested in connection with.
I can go to the police and accuse you of stealing my car, but cannot write that you stole my car else yuo can easily sue me. The police willl deicde if there's enough evidence to arrest you. If yuo get arrested, I can write that yuo have been arrested for stealing it.
PS No offense, just using an example - you wouldn't want my car anyway!

Is it fun? No! Is it inconvenient; is it a pain? Yes, but it is also necessary in many instances. If private citizens had to have concrete evidence, some perps would never be investigated.

Its absolutely wrong of course. Thats what happened in the witchhunts so many years ago, and look how many innocent people got killed then.
It seems like alot of people here on YA are accusing the Mcann's without any proof. If they are wrong then they need to be identified, named and shamed. Too bad we can't accuse them of a crime without any proof!!!

Innocent until proven guilty! Sadly the police apparently have (or had as the case may be now) no other evidence to go on and therefore Murat was jumped on! I think they definately need to be looking closer to home now and I genuinely think they already are!

not sure about this one. You can report anything you like to the police and they would have to investigate it. As for printing something in a paper or on the internet I'm not so sure, I would have thought you could be sued for damages if your claims were unfounded. Good question though.
