'The Advocate' wouldn't hire me because of my orientation. I'm suing them now for discrimination.

Everyone knows it's wrong to discriminate.

no-one knows you are gay unless you tell them. your whole premise is out to lunch.

some jobs require a physically different kind of person than some might normally associate with gays, but thats only becaust those people are ignorant rednecks.

go to a gay "bear" bar and see the size and condition of the men there. Any four of them could build you a house in a day.

it might be a pink house and it might not, but no-one would tell them they arent man enough for those jobs

I'm not certain about interviews, however in 35 + states here in the US a person can be fired just for being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered. As a matter of fact about six months ago in Largo,FL a transgendered individual was fired from his position as a city planner...a position he had held for 25 years...simply because he wanted to transiton to female.

We are far from a protected minority. Racial minorities have far more protections than we do and we're born this way, too.

It depends on the company and state honestly. I live in MIssouri and there are several companies that specifically state in the new hire book, that discrimination because of sexual orientation is against company policy and you can be terminated.

Please cutie ... there are many gay builders and even "str8" builders who indulge in homosexual activities.

Where I come from it's ok to be gay in certain professions (tv, hairdressing, hotels, airline stewards) and if you are overtly gay, feminine or camp people will be more accepting of you as gay but if you are str8-looking, manly or even normal, the confession that you are gay would cause scandal. People would be, like, "Why would you want to be gay when you are so ... normal."

But I digress ...

They could ask you about marriage, lifestyles, anything they could even ask if you bat for the same team as them? They could even look at your appearance. I was at an agency the other day and over heard things like "you need to dress appropriate" which is understandable but that is your choice as long as it is all decent... right?

This is england and i am married to a woman and let anyone say different they will see their asses. It is wrong. and really lame and childish.

I was given the interview..but was discreetly told afterward that I didn't get it...when I asked 'why'--I was told "did you really think someone in your situation would get it"....it was an airline job.....I was by far the most qualified....

Most of the time it's more subtle. Example from my own life:
Question: Are you married? (This is illegal to ask in this state, but it was asked)
Answer: No, I'm not
Question: Do you have children (Again, illegal in this state to ask)
Answer: No, I don't
Question: And why not???

The inference was clear to me.
