I am moving from one apartment in New York City to another in a month. I'm wondering if it's smarter to cancel my account and sign up again as a new customer, or if I should let them know I'm moving and transfer addresses. I have Time Warner cable.

In my experience, if both homes are serviced by the same company, it is best to call and just ask what they prefer. I know that in some areas, T-W might service both but they might be serviced by different offices. In that case they will tell you to cancel one and start as a new customer at the other. If they are serviced by the same office, they will probably tell you to just transfer the account.

All of that said, if they have signup specials, you might want to find out if there are any good specials that you will be missing out on if you just transfer your service instead of stopping and re-starting.

The only other question that I would ask when I called is whether there would be some overlap and you wold end up paying twice in the same month. You definitely want to make sure that doesn't happen.

It is less expensive to call the cable company and have them transfer your service. If you cancel then sign up again you will have to pay for another installation fee to set up. And most likely have to return your old equipment to them to get your deposit back. It will definitely save on time to just transfer the equipment and service to your new address. Good luck with the move.

If the same cable company serves both locations, just call them and ask them to transfer your service to the new address.
