I've had chronic anxiety and panic disorders most of my life and used to be on high doses of Xanax every day just to get by. I've discovered a few things to work much better than otheres, but everyone is different, so you may wish to try other things.

High doses of magnesium are EXCELLENT for anxiety management! You'll need to work up the higher dosage, as magnesium is also an excellent laxative. LOL. Taking a malic acid supplement will help you take higher dosages than you likely could without it. I would say that this is #1 best thing I came across. My naturopath suggested it.

Other ways to help manage it are taking high potency B vitamins, especially B-6 and B-12 which help clear the stress hormones out of your body.

If you have having a peak of anxiety Bach's Rescue Remedy is a miracle! This single-handedly replaced the Xanax that I used to never leave home without. When you start to feel anxious, put a few drops or sprays on your tongue (they also have a wicked little spray-bottle, like a breath freshner, which I prefer). Repeat as needed every minute or so, but likely you won't need to do it more than 3 or 4 times before you're back to normal.

If you have a low baseline of anxiety, chamomile tea &/or kava kava work nicely.

A combination of these should aid you ALOT. If they don't, then you should see a physician - perhaps a homeopath or naturopath if you want to try and steer clear of allopathic treatment (and I don't blame you).

I understand Kava Kava is good. Catnip in a tea will help you sleep. You have to be careful with Valerian and take in correct doses which can sometimes be tricky. You should visit a shop that sells herbal remedies and speak to the expert on staff. They're trained to make up the correct herbal combinations in the right doses for whatever ailment or condition you may have.

This may or may not help, but....after years of taking anti-anxiety drugs, I decided I would try to find out what might be causing it. The answer? I eliminated caffeine from my diet entirely, and after a year--yes, it takes that long--I am finally better. When I told the doctor, he really didn't believe me, and tried to give me more pills. I don't need them. I drank 4-5 cups of coffee a day, made it strong, and I didn't even realize it was making me climb the walls! Look up caffeine toxicity on the 'net.

Why do you not get to the root of your anxiety? finding and treating the cause is always the best cure.

While you work on that, find a remedy called 'Rescue' at the local health food/homeopathic store. It will take the edge off while you work on yourself.

Your best bet would be going to the doctor for a prescription instead. This will ensure you are getting what you need to cope with it. Other than that, there are herbal meds that you can find at your local supermarket or drugstore. I tried all of these that they had and none of them did a bit of good. I ended up having to go to the doctor and get on Lexapro for anxiety and depression.
