I don't think atheism has anything to do with the quintessential energy of a person.

Well, the Bible tells us that absent from the body, present with the Lord. It does not say that anyone's spirit lingers here. I wish I could tell you what you want to hear to make you feel better but I can't and Atheism may sound like it would have been a solution, but in my opinion, it would be a very lonely one. I lost my father-in-law 2 years ago and my daughter was only 5 yrs old. Its hard to accept but I know that although he can't be here anymore, I know that someday I will go to heaven see him. I hope this helps

No, but the Holy Spirit can and will comfort you if you seek Him. Atheists believe in no higher power and when we die that's it. You decide to believe if that is real or not. People have a hard time believing in something that is bigger than themselves. Theories of evolution are simply that: theories.

I don't think that anyone really knows weither or not this will happen but it makes us feel better to believe that the person we have lost is still with us in some form. So there is nothing wrong with believing in it if that is what you want to believe in.

My first husband and childhood sweetheart died when we were in our 20's. His spirit was with me until I married my current husband and he knew that I was safe and happy. This sounds crazy I know, however it can happen.

No.
When a person dies, the spirit goes to heaven, and what left is the memories.

My loved ones know enough not to say such things to me, because if I encounter any type of spirit, I will promptly have a massive heart attack and drop dead myself.
