Pahrump is about 30 minutes away, there's nothing out there either. Don't move to North LV or anything near the strip unless you're in a high rise condo and like traffic. there are always jobs for something, what field are you in? Plus it's pretty cheap to live out here but costs are rising like everywhere else. Summerlin is very nice including most of the area next to it since it is all brand new and you have easy access to everywhere from the 215. Southern Highlands is nice also but at the southern part of the city so it may be more difficult to get around town. Again it depends on what you do and are interested in. Anthem, Henderson, Centennial and the Nothern part of town along 95 are also nice and safer then the rest of town.

Pahrump .. NO ... I moved here to Vegas last Christmas. I now live in the southwest part of the valley. Really nice .. less than two years old over here. Summerlin is pretty pricey. Right now you can rent a very expensive condo for dirt cheap. Housing market is the same as everywhere and no one can sell so they rent it out. Great deals. Cost of living is good. This is really a different place to live. People are not neighborly. They keep to themselves. Still I like living here. If you can not find a job in Vegas .. well .. just remember you have to pass a back round check on most jobs here. A lot of rules and regulations also.

Pahrump is not in or even near Las Vegas. I think it's close to an hour away from Las Vegas. It's kind of the middle of nowhere, really. I heard from someone who grew up there that there isn't anything to do in Pahrump.
Las Vegas is pretty pricey, compared to some places in the country (especially the housing market). Although compared to cities like Los Angeles or Seattle, housing prices are cheaper.
Summerlin is nice. (I don't know about Southern Highlands; I've never been there or heard anything about it.)
Where are you living now? Keep in mind that Las Vegas is very different from other cities. There is gambling everywhere (including gas stations and grocery stores), temperatures are in the 110's in the summer, there are tons of strip clubs, and in general, it's a very superficial city. I wouldn't want to raise kids there, so keep that in mind if you have children or plan to have any soon. I grew up there and moved away right after high school. I prefer other cities to Las Vegas because they have some history, culture, 4 seasons, and are less superficial.
On the plus side, there are a lot of things to do in Las Vegas. Aside from the casinos, there are lots of shows, a theme park for kids, circus shows, great restaurants, tons of shopping, etc.
I think finding a job would be relatively easy in Las Vegas, although this of course depends on what field you're in.

don't limit yourself to only specific parts..... there's too many homes for sale everywhere just check things out and look around and see what's best for you. job market always good, cost of living average-2-average high.
