I think it's a morning glory. These face the sun so seek to see, and twine all over anything they can grab ahold of. They seem to have a plan to take over the yard as the millions of seeds can come up anywhere, even between concrete sections of sidewalks and driveways!

Perhaps it's a sunflower....it's big face turns to the sun throughout the day. Secondly it's grown in the garden, often at the back of the house?
I'll be interested to see what the true answer is!

Okay, this sounds like a riddle so my answer is some sort of flowering vine and I will guess a Clematis. Flower seeks the sun and roots seek shade.
