Maybe your thinking of throttle body fuel injection and ported fuel injection.
Yes the throttle body type works much like a carburetor but the fuel delivery is controlled by the electronics. Ported has an individual injector for each piston, again the delivery is controlled electronically. Simple answer, if you want some good info start here:

I think I know what you are asking. Some older systems only used one port to inject the fuel into the center of the intake manifold. The new systems have multi-port injectors and will inject fuel into each cylinder seperately. So there in lies the difference.

carburetor type look like a carburetor except it has one or 2 injectors mount on top of it. this type squirt gas down to the intake manifold and into the cylinders. electronic fuel injectors squirt gas directly into the cylinders. this type increase horsepower,better fuel economy, and less emission

your thinking throttle boby injected and multi port injected
i uses i or 2 injectors for all the cylenders the other uses 1 injector per cylinder
both are electronis
unless youre talking vw.s csi its opreated by vacume
