Swollen/closed eyes: This is often caused by a respiratory or other infection, but may also be due to a lack of nutrition, lack of sunlight, or dehydration. First check for signs of a respiratory infection (below) and treat accordingly as soon as possible. Any kind of discharge from the nose, or other signs of infection should be dealt with by a reptile veterinarian. Otherwise, try soaking the animal in warm water for a few minutes a day to help rinse any pus out of the eye, or soften it if it has hardened. Raise humidity levels by misting the enclosure (a hospital enclosure should probably be used during treatment) and providing an adequately sized water dish. Swollen eyes are also a symptom of a Vitamin A deficiency. If this is a possibility, get a multivitamin supplement with Vitamin A, and include appropriate fruits and vegetables in the diet. Also be sure your pet gets plenty of natural, unfiltered sunlight daily. Injections of Vitamin A can easily overdose and should be used as a last resort.

There are MANY causes for swollen eyes, and vitamin A deficiency is only one cause. Soaking the turtle twice a day for 15 minutes in a separate container and using Saline Solution or Turtle Eye Clear will make the turtle more comfortable. You can start this immediately upon noticing the problem.

Add a small amount of vitamins to his food every other
day--I use bird vitamins and dust a piece of banana with it. Or you can feed Tender Vittels or another cat food with high vitamins once a week. Look for something that is relatively low in fat!

If his eyes get worse or don't improve, you may need to apply some antibiotics. See a veterinarian first, so you use the appropriate cream.

Vitamin A deficiency is caused by dietary problems.

Swollen eyes can also be caused by dusty litter, especially if you are using shavings of any kind, or by a bacterial infection, which can come from a dirty enclosure, or as a symptom together with respiratory infections or colds.

Don't assume automatically, that it is a
vitamin deficiency, but make sure the condition is evaluated properly.

If your turtle is sluggish, not eating, or shows any other symptoms together with the swollen eyes, see a veterinarian immediately. Your turtle has a serious health problem that needs treatment.

I have a red ear slider, born in texas- not sure if yours is different lol buty my baby girl had the same problem, she was always sleeping (well i thought sleeping) on her rock, while my boy turtle swimmed carelessly in the water. she would wake up and rub her eyes with her arms like... lift your arm do not bind it and then rub your head against it... thats what she did. and it took her forever to open her eyes. well i gave it time and then i bought medicine to go into the water. I basically got the meds from the vet and it worked. My other turtle didn't get it but my case might be different i would separate them for the time beeing until yours is feeling better.

good luck to your little pet- i hope he/she feels better soon

It has a watch an infection, which leads to it no longer establishing it extremely is eyes. Eye drops for turtles might desire to artwork positive. a large tank for a turtle..hmm, I doubt yours is, to no longer be rude, yet turtles desire 10 gallons of water according to sq. inch of shell. So, a 4" turtle could choose a 40 gallon tank. you will possibly desire to up the warmth interior the tank to approximately 80* to help it heal. They heal speedier contained in this style of 80-80 5*. it extremely is beneficial to examine your species too.

sounds like some kind of infection,i would bring it to a reptile/exotic animal vet,it's a little more $,but if you care enough you'll do it.if it's a water turtle, which i am not shure, the tortoise will be fine, but if it's a box turtle, which are semi-aquatic,it;s best to keep them apart.truthfully i would bring both in for a check up!

I would just go with whatever the vet said, as long a it was a good and well trained vet all you'll have to do is keep it with the medicine and just wait.
