I have looked in the trunk and I only seen 2 screws. I unscrewed them and it didn't loosen the panel. Nissan wants to charge 40 dollars to replace the brake light. Can anyone offer any assistance or suggestions, before I resort to Nissan.

Get you replacement bulb and ask the guy or gal at the parts counter. Your first answer sounds right. I don't deal with anything past the 70s. Rule of thumb. The big screws hold the base unit or frame and small screws or clips hold the lens frame, if it's not a pop off.

If somebody put it in; there must be a way to get it out. For $40.00 I would keep looking.

Pull the paneling off and expose the light chassis and remove the screws and bolts.
