my wife got pulled over by a motorcycle cop and the radar detector did go off but when it was too late, usually other times it warns her ahead of time with the cop vehicle but the motorcycle ones can be tricky. Hers is a 9 or 12 band one cant remember but is there a good one for motorcycle cops or in general? The cop told her that now they have better equpment therefore hers did not work as it should.

I believe that the motorcycle cop doesn't have as strong a radar as the cops, that is why it doesn't pick up as soon. For instance, when you go thru a small town, their radars hit you while they are in sight, usually, but a state trooper can be detected for sometimes up to a mile. the majority of the problem is the difference in their equipment. A cheap radar detecter still picks up the same radar as an expensive one, you just get more lights and sounds with the expensive ones. There may be some really high dollar detecters that could do you better, but i doubt it. Hope this helps you out some!

Most any wide band, k-band, and laser detector will do the trick, you just need to know how to use it:
Don't let the pork lie to you, both can be defeated with detectors. A little care must be taken. Find a good wide band radar/laser detector. As you cruise the road pay attention to when it goes off and how it goes off.
Most pork in the country use older style constant on radar. This radar emits a signal all the time and is easily defeated by a radar detector. No more tickets from that fat a** country pork.
Bigger city cops and State Patrol use pop-radar and laser.
Pop-radar emits a signal when the pork pulls the trigger or pushes the button. Since it emits a band of radar signals the detector will pick these up as well. They will also detect this over hills, etc... You should be careful though in that the pork often hides and if you're the only one on the road you may get popped before you can react.
Laser is tougher to beat is used by Highway patrol and some police traffic patrols. It emits a very narrow band of light that almost has to be pointing at your detector. However, the bouncing signal from other cars will set your detector off and make it seem like you got popped. Again take caution when driving alone on the road.
You can defeat laser with a device that emits a signal back to the gun and causes it to error out. Some of these devices are illegal but many are not.
Always remember the pork is out there to poke you. They are the legal mafia and have bosses that make them take your money.

Radar detectors go off AFTER a radar hits your car. They only give you the heads up that you may or may not be getting pulled over depending on the cop and other traffic around you.
Your wife should just slow down and go the speed limit (or five over) and not rely on a detector since as she has attested to, dont work!

In my personal opinion radar detectors are a joke, if a cop is going to pull you over your radar detector isn't going to be fast enough to keep up and you will have already been stopped before it will work. Also if a cop sees that you have a radar detector and it's legal in you state he is more likely to give you a ticket because he knows you are trying to speed and watch for the cops.

these losers dont know what they are talking about. Radar detectors work great, if u have the right one. Go to www.biglucciradar.com they have the best radar detector for only 209.00 will detect anything, and is one of the best available on the market. I suggest that u buy it and u will never get pulled over again. i have it and i love it. I have never got pulled over yet. if you are like me and like to cruse fast no problem, if their is a cop anywhere it will detect it, even motorcycles. It never lets u down, so if i was you i would buy it.

They are a joke.
Cops now have what is called a JAMMER - which will jam your radar detector thinking there is nothing until it is to late.
Not much you can do besides getting a jammer of your own - they are not cheap like a detector - starting at 450.0 for the cheap and obsolete ones

a radar detectector detects a radar sign. a scrambler is meant to intervene with a radar sign so it would not bounce back to the radar gun to enable it understand how in a well timed fashion your going. yet those have in no way been shown to artwork. they are criminal in IL.

Use Cobra XRS-9330 or above they work ok with me also its a 12 band. Just put it in the middle(top of the dashboard) of the the car where the cops laser can reach it so it can warn you.

She deserved whatever she got for her dangerous behaviour.
If she doesn't want to get a fine she should just learn to drive at the speed limit (and leave earlier if she is worried about being late).
