How do you tactfully tell your Wife or Girlfriend that she needs bigger sized clothes?

My wife said to me " the scale shows I gained 5 pounds, do these pants look tighter" I foolishly answered truthfully "Yeah, they seem a bit tighter, because you gained 5 pounds, but you look OK" I got blasted...She always wears her clothes too tight...All the makeover shows tell us to wear clothes that fit, but how do you get somebody to buy size 10 insread of 8?
Without getting blasted, I mean.
Men and Women please answer.

I actually think you should tell your wife the truth, even though you know you'll get blasted. If she chooses not to listen, that's her problem; but I would still tell her the truth. "Sweetheart, as much as I love you--and as beautiful as you are, you're wearing your clothes too tight." That's how I would say it. If she disagreed with me, that would be her choice.

Suggest dinner out... go to a salad bar style restaurant .. and then say lets go take a walk in the mall, honey.. walk past a few shops.. and then see something in a window ( NOT a fat womans shop, please ) and say oh honey! that would look so good on you.. make her try it on.. and when she chooses the wrong size.. and she shows the dress off to you ..say oh i don't know honey.. how about THIS one then, be enthusiastic about how beautiful it will make her look to you.. and make sure the one you give her to try on is NOT the same one she just tried on..but another dress which is one size larger. Cross your fingers, maybe she won't check the size... if she does though.. tell her no, you dont want it to look too tight, that you think its one of those dresses that looks a little better with some ease to it. ( ease is the comfort level of the tightness of a garment and how it moves on you as you wear it )

Just mention softly that you dont like the pants shes wearing anymore as they dont look right or something like that, its not an easy thing to tell someone but the truth hurts. Either that or start exercising with her, walks in the park etc, try and be more active with her and she will probably appreciate it and stop moaning about gaining pounds!

ohh thats a toughy problem u got there, i don't think theres a much nice way of saying it, i think u shud jus go out shopping and get some clothes for her and get her size 10 clothes, switch size 10 hangers in shop to a size 8 hanger and say to her u didn't realise u had gotten size 10, cos many times in shops the hangers don't always ahve the correct size and u lost the reciept, so she has to keep the clothers, lol that ways she's wears them and u got ur job done without hurting her feelings.

In the honest truth there's not much you can say. Women really don't like being told by anyone that they are unnattractive/overweight, especially their significant other. No amount of negotiation and tactfulness will suffice. You can soften the blow and perhaps get out of the other end with the bare minimum punishment (maybe two or three months without sex). But really unless one of their female friends talks them into it you've got no chance.
