considered offensive or immoral? I'm quite good at belly dancing (the art, not just shaking your butt, u know...)

I definitely would. A college admissions office would recognize it as a legitimate art form. Besides, many colleges & universities are looking for cultural diversity on their campuses, and want students that bring something unique to the school. Showing that you are well-versed and have an interest in different cultures (and the arts!) can only help you.

If nothing else, it's a great talking point for an interview.

Good luck!

The only way it can be considered immoral is the person doesn't know what it is. So it depends on what college you're applying and who will be reading your resume. Most scholars are quite educated and they know that bellydancing is an art form. However, it is conceivable that some don't know any better, just like a few answerers at the top of the page. If you're applying to a dance school I'm sure they know what it is. Yeah, I agree with J'naii to call it Middle Eastern Dance on your applicatoin.

I am in a professional actor training program in the US right now. Belly dancing is on my list of special skills on my resume, so you can put it on yours. Belly dancing isn't offensive or immoral, just uncommon. It's not like you're a stripper. So go ahead and list it as a hobby, especially if you are applying to a dance or theatre program.

The term "belly dance" shouldn't be considered offensive, but then Hollywood managed to "glamorize" belly dance and it changed how people see it. You could say Middle Eastern Dance.

while you're nervous approximately how "abdomen dancing" would be won on your utility then in simple terms placed "dancing" or "dance". The latter would be assumed to point the paintings of dancing and not the social pastime. what's offensive or immoral varies from college-to-college and community-community. the place I did my undergrad, even unique dancers (strippers) weren't seen "offensive", it is in simple terms a job. the place I did my MA - those might besides be heathens. It in simple terms relies upon on the place you're.

Is there a less provocative term for it? If so, list it (especially if you are going to be a theatre/performing arts major). If not, you could simply list "dance."
