I totally agree--a cop should be able to pull you over for cell phone use. I mean, it took a stupid girl to kill herself texting her father to pass laws about cell's and driving.

It should be mandatory everywhere..I have no idea what Canada is waiting for..it has been in force in the UK for a long time; and well enforced..I have a freind in Manchester England and she just picked the phone up and said "wait I have to park" and she was fined..and in Scotland my cousin while driven me around got a call and he pulled off before even touching the phone..and I read that if caught in Australia it is considered equal to impaired driving..and not just driving, why not limit their use where it violates my right to a peaceful environment...like a restaurant of public transit...in some European countries there are blocking umbrellas around some restaurants to stop calls...it is time we had a rights code to protect people from the dangerous, ignorant and inconsiderate use of the cell phones...my dream has been to find a cell phone blocking device that I can use to zap someone on the phone and in an instant their signal is lost...been trying and I hear they are out there but no one will make or sell me one...and lastly, why is there not a more immediate legal crackdown, because most phone companies are extremely rich, have control of the media and have a huge powerful lobby groups in our capitals...the immediate issue should be that they are dangerous, annoying and the use of such a valuable piece of technology has been abused to the point of the absurd...absurd?..ever look at how ridiculous some of these people look and I have been exposed to some of the most valuable information while eavesdropping, not hard when some are talking on them like they haven't graduated from the two tins tied together technology, on the train, bus or just walking thorough a mall...I will stop here because you have hit a cord with the one person who refuses to own one...it is bad enough having such a gross invasion of privacy as a land line but I do not want to be followed everywhere...and that is another whole issue, with the proper equipment I know where you are and so does...well let's not get into conspiracies just yet.

That is the choice of the people that live in the state. You care complaining about people using the cell phones while driving a motor vehicle, but what about the people that are eating while driving, the women putting makeup on while driving, the radio stations being changed. Cell phones are a problem in some cases, but there is also other reasons people are killing themselves and others. It shouldn't mandatory in every state, its the people's choice. In Michigan there is a few towns your not aloud to talk on a cell phone unless your pulled over on the side of the road...but Hands Free isn't any better, the person is still talking to someone in a full conversation not paying attention!

Not only do idiots with phones cause more than their share of accidents, they're also the ones who are stopped at green lights while they dial, idling along well below the speed limit while they talk, etc. -- that is, they're a major cause of traffic jams. By the way, have you ever listened to what these people say on the phone while driving? "Yeah, I'm just driving home, I'll be there at the usual time. Anything new with you? Nope, same old same old..." Then they hang up and call someone else and say the same thing. Save the phones for important stuff. And if it's more important than driving safely, then park before you dial.

All states are different and establish their own traffic laws.
You are correct that Florida should have this cell phone law as should every other state. Perhaps you should contact your local state legislator and press for that change. It may do some good.
That concerned we should also be concerned with drivers who put on their makeup, men who shave, people who look at maps and even change radio stations while driving. Studies have shown that these are dangerous. Yet, I know of no state law against any of these.

I think about this all the time. I live in ohio and I see these people on their phones "driving". They have no idea what speed they are doing, what road they are on or even what county they are in. Oblivious to the world of other drivers.
The one that really irks me is when I'm in line at an ATM machine and some idiot is sitting there at the machine chatting on their cell phone and NOT getting money.
Some people are capable of driving while chatting. But the majority is not.
I would love to see cell phones banned in cars immediately here.

It depends on the government body that represents each state. You are ABSOLUTELY right, it should be outlawed in every state. People can't pay attention and drive while talking on a phone. You can start a petition in your state or call and write your local rep. for your gov. to find out what steps you can take to get the ball rolling.

New York has the right idea.
A car pulled out in front of me from a sideroad, I had to slam on my brakes to avoid T-boning her car...sure enough, cell phone user. Car swerved into my lane, I'm like, WTF?...and then...sure enough, cell phone user.
I resent that so much that these people can endanger me and especially my children who are riding with me because they are willfully distracted.
I give my phone to the kids when I am driving, they will use the phone when needed and I just pay attention to what I am doing.
Any legislators out there...are you listening.....

The question is "who is to be blamed"?.Who enforces the laws made in New York?
Due to this the police in New York should prosecute those who go against the rules in that state and i think it would work.
It should not be mandatory cos alot would die when it's made mandatory. Therefore, blame the police.
