sounds bad i work a t BMW and we get these all the time, usually a voltage spike in the system even if the Battery is disconnected can fry a ECU and the BMW has many ECUs. many times we have to replace multiple ECUs on one car for this same reason, you may have to go to the dealership or a certified BMW shop so they can put the DIS system on your car and tell what happened (this is the easiest way to to do it) then replacing is the ECU is the only way to fix it and that can cost $$$$$$, sorry this isn't such good news but BMW s are very sensitive cars that require expensive tools to work on them i hope you can get it fixed good luck

Get a new boyfriend that doesn't muck up the BMW !

Sounds like the genius may have fried the ECU, could be an expensive fix. Did he disconnect the battery?

Tell you boy this: 'Sometimes if it ain't broken don't fix and if you don't know what your doing, don't touch it!'.

I believe you have an E36 3 series.

On the E36, the radio wiring is done at the factory (pre-wired), and all you needed to do to install a radio is to remove and unplug the exisiting radio (if it has one) and plug in the new radio that was already pre-connected to the BMW radio plug/harness.

The basic wiring includes:
- front left speaker (pair)
- rear left speaker (pair)
- front right speaker (pair)
- rear right speaker (pair)
- Power (always on)
- Ignition (only on with engine)
- Amplifier signal
- Antenna
- Ground

You shouldn't have any problems if you wired all the above correctly to the BMW adapter plug.

Considering the model years that you're looking at are 2003-2004, the MPG difference isn't significant. The 325xi would be your best choice since AWD is better on the Canadian roads than RWD.

Sounds like trouble, however i doubt that he damaged the ECU. Why don't you just send it to a local mechanic to install it for you, it'll take no more than 10 minutes and they won't charge you much ;)
