Yes, I do believe that. Or, if we can't totally forget our own troubles, at least we can get a little perspective. I may be awfully worried about paying the rent this month, but there are plenty of people out there who don't even have a home! That's perspective!

Hearing that another person has troubles much worse than I do helps me to see my burdens in a much different light, (it diminishes my problems) and makes me thankful for the things and good times I do have.

yes --- but there is a catch --- you can never really forget about your troubles ( for a reason or another ) listening to others' troubles is indeed a ' get out ' -- 'cop out ' cal it what you will --- to help soothe the mind --- but one thing is absolutely for sure and certain --- there are ( sadly ) those in this ever unpredictable world of ours ; far far worse off good luck .

I don't think we can forget but we can realize that our troubles (as hard & as trying as they can be) aren't the worse that can happen. & if we see someone who has it worse & can still be motivated to keep going...then what are we standing around for?!
I think sharing our troubles makes us see that we are not alone in the world & opens our eyes to the fact that everyone has adversity in their lives. What makes us who we are in life is our ability to rise after falling.

People suggest that and i dont think it works too well. I think it is usually said by someone who doesnt really want to know. Maybe they have troubles themselves.
The better way is to work through them and reframe them. Stand out of the box and move on. It takes time but works better longer term. Work out where you want to be with them and plan the steps needed to get there. Just a view.

Yes, I believe that in the beginning of time, this was the original reason for church. It was to worship friends and family and the struggles that everyone goes through and to have a common release of all of the stress but of course when the wise die off and things begin to be taken over by cowards and controlling fools everything changed!

If you listening with the intent to accept that maybe you make a bigger deal out of the trouble in your life..
If you do it for humility and being brought back down to earth.
Yes
If you do it to secretly enjoy it and make yourself feel better about your own life, then no.
(hope that makes sense)

Yes, but it depends, because if it's the trouble of someone very close to you that you are listening, that makes your burden even bigger, because you suffer for their stuff as well.
But I guess it's possible hearing other people might help one to put things in perspective.

I guess that makes sense in a way, it just reminds me how my husband always tells me that I complain for the things I don't have, and he's always telling me to be appreciated on the things we do have such as, our health, our 3 kids health, a roof over our head, food in the refrigerator, ect. So yeah, I can see what your saying, if I compare myself to the ones less fortunate, than yes, I guess I am better situation.
