I couldn't imagine devoting my life to something I couldn't see. I rather live for good.

That depends on who your God is, doesn't it? Most people think of God as good, therefore living for God is to be good. Ergo, you should live for your God and the good will be taken care of. The idea behind this is that people, if left to decide for themselves what is good, often go wrong; so religions were devised to give simple folk clear rules to help avoid troubles. Thus we see that living for good is only possible for very clever people who are able to think through the puzzles of ethics for themselves e.g. philosophers. Since most aren't philosophers, most take the ready-made, tried and tested instructions of Christianity, for example.
If your God is not good e.g. He has rules that others might consider evil (or at least 'questionable'), you will have a problem in that your day-to-day reality will conflict with your religious codes. If one is in this position, changing religion to one that fits one's life might be the solution although there are obvious difficulties inherent to this (that should undermine one's faith in all religious systems).
It should be noted that striving 'to be your best to the people you meet' is overlooking the influences you have over those you don't meet e.g. we are often observed unbeknownst to us, we can do things that can have consequences beyond our immediate circles, etc.

It is important to live for good
but
with a firm belief in existence of God and the day of judgment
because
it is as you are living for God.
Did you ever think over it that always living for good is not possible and you will give it up even for a few times if you don't believe in God and the day of judgement? Just think how true is it.

In Hinduism, they are the two paths to God. in case you adore and compliment God, it is Bhakta Yoga. in case you experience that action is the element, it is Raja Yoga. The objective is purifying your recommendations so as which you care in simple terms for others, and you're humble and not continuously needing the failings of the international. This you're able to do despite in case you do not have a perception in God. you're a worth individual then. You cleanse your intentions and strengthen into reliable first. Others are interested in you through fact they experience you shield them. The Bhakta surrenders each and every thing to his loved, places his existence interior the palms of the Lord, and thinks continuously of God. some are geared up for this direction. be conscious that Christianity honors the two yogas, yet without giving credit to the older Hinduism the place they originated.

Well, there are plenty of people who would say that they devoted themselves to God but who have done some absolutely appalling things. I'd worry about people first. If you're Christian, Jesus was all about the nice people who were part of hated groups (Samaritans, tax collectors) being better than the supposedly godly people who acted like jack@sses.

If you're living for God then the good of all people will be part of the plan. God wants us to be loving, kind, and generous to those we meet and not to be judgemental.

Voter,

In time, you will discover that it is impossible for human beings to live for good, all on their own. We are animals, and without the guiding influence of the perfect spirit of God, we will eventually resort to whatever satisfies our own needs. It is the inner influence of God's spirit, a gift to all humans, that leads us to our higher qualities, what we call "good". The more we seek to cooperate with this inner Teacher, the more closely we come to being "Good". Even those who deny the existence of spiritual realities, are influenced by this factor, like it or not. It is the source of our mental and spiritual evolution, and without it, we would all perish in anarchy. Peace be unto you...............

Living for God. Here is why. The concept of moral absolutism requires a "God". God is the final arbiter of morality or in other words God defines good and evil and there is no compromise.

Remove God and what you are left with is the concept of moral relativism. This means that there is no final arbiter of morality so morality means whatever we want it to mean. Good is not always good; evil not always evil. This is why you cannot rely on what someone says when they say "living for good". With moral relativism, good can mean anything they want it to mean.

This is how socialism works. They eliminate God and all reference to God and religion from their country. They instill the concept of moral relativism. This allows an all powerful socialist government to do whatever it wants. For instance, if it decides to kill all old or infirm people because it sees them as a drag on the economy, they can do it. If they want to starve whole sections of their country as a form of punishment they can do that, too.

So, in summary, with no God there is no real good. Living for God is living for real, absolute and unchanging good. Living for good allows anyone do define what good is, changing from circumstance to circumstance.

They are one in the same. If you live for God, you "should" be good, although that's not always the case, which means you are just pretending to live for God.
