If Boston wins the division then Steinbrenner would get mad at the Yankees organization. He wouldn't fire anyone if the Yankees make the playoffs. If the Yankees miss the playoffs then Steinbrenner would go crazy and possibly fire Torre. I'm a Yankees fan myself and I think that the Red Sox are a slightly better team than the Yankees. The Red Sox have a stronger rotation and bullpen than the Yankees. But that Yankees lineup is the best in baseball and can do a lot of damage. Right now, I hope the Yankees win the division but it's a very close call.

The matchup Clemens vs. Towers favors the Yanks because Towers has a 7.56 ERA and 0-1 against the Yankees this year. Clemens has struggled but in 3 games that he lost, he didn't get much run support.

The matchup Wakefield vs. Saunders favors the Angels. Saunders has been lights out this year being 5-0 with an ERA slightly above 3. But, Wakefield has won 3 straight decisions and has an ERA of 3.72 during those 3 games.

At the end of Tuesday, the Red Sox will be 5 games ahead of Yanks.

I'm not sure that George will even be around when the Sox win the division. There have been reports that Steinbrenner has some serious health issues and has apparently not looked well at all over the past few months. So the better question might be what are the Yankees going to do if Steinbrenner isn't around anymore?

George has lost a step or two over the past 9 season, simply because he is used to winning division titles. Maybe the somewhat complacent attitude that the Yankees organization has taken will snap them out of it. That a division title isn't theirs simply because of payroll.... as much of a Yankee fan that I am, they need this wake up call. And as far as Boston being the better team, maybe ... maybe not ... that is all a matter of opinion

to break it to ya, but Boston isn't even going to make it in the playoffs. The Yankees will win the AL East, and the Wild Card is coming from the Central, that's going to the Twins.

I don't know. The last time the Yankees finished behind the Red Sox, George fired Buck Showalter and hired Joe Torre and the Yankees haven't finised behind Boston since.

But that was a really long time ago and who knows what he'll do now.

Haha.
Well I'm sure he'll have a speach of some sort, to try and obtain his job. His ego will be forever bruised, if the Sox continue to lead (they have all season) and win the division if not more.
Go Sox!

I have a feeling that Joe Torre and Brian Cashman will be looking for a new gig. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. The Yanks are only 6 games back and that can be made up. The Bosox play the Angels for another 2 and the Yanks have Toronto for 2. We could be 4 games back after that. hmmmmmmmmmm

I think George's health has been failing lately.

There are rumors that he is becoming senile and has trouble communicating on some days.

I hope his health improves, and I think he would have positive things to say about the Red Sox after the Sox win the World Series

I doubt he'll act out, Sox have been in lead the whole season, i'm sure he has prepared himself for that moment when it comes, I think he'll flip out if the yankees fail to win the wild card, in that case I would expect the firing of Cashman and im not sure if Torre's job would be safe either.

Check out the article at www.portfolio.com. Mr. Steinbrenner has bigger concerns than the Yankees right now. Sad, sad story.
