At first, hate gives you power, the strength to deal, to handle all the wrongs done to us. It makes us feel so liberated, so alive and in control because it is such a strong emotion and leads you to believe that you can do anything in response to what was so wrongly done to us. But it is only a temporary thing. It leaves you alone with the same or even more woes, especially if you found yourself acting on it. Don't mistake this for strengh. It is actually humanities greatest weakness.

There never is a correct time to 'use' hate.

It is hurtful on many levels including creates a negative view on those who'd use Hate.

On example is to see how the Fundamentalist X-ian's Bigotry has damaged the reputations of every X-ian.

A late PS: Just found this marvelous/relevant quote.

Happiness cannot come from hatred or anger. Nobody can say, "Today I am happy because this morning I was very angry." On the contrary, people feel uneasy and sad and say, "Today I am not happy because I lost my temper this morning." Through kindness, whether at our own level or at the national and international level, through mutual understanding and through mutual respect, we will get peace, we will get happiness, and we will get genuine satisfaction.

Hate if helpful if:

You are trying to collect political or religious power

You want to isolate or confront a specific group

You'd like to dehumanize your enemy

You want to give up mediation or non-hateful methods of resolution

You lose a rational perspective

Tell me if any of those things sound valuable, then judge if hate is a good thing.

Hate is like a hot coal held in the hand with the intent of throwing it at someone.

Ultimately they don't really care, and you are the only one being harmed by it.

I love Aphrodite's answer - And to that I would add that hate unbalances you and therefore is not a good motivator.
