Well, it sounds like a very simple question but you put me in a dilemma. That is, if I were to give a very truthful answer. What if the diamond is of the best quality? Have all the 5 Cs? Costs a fortune and captures my heart the moment I set my eyes on it? And assuming I could well afford it? Well, the temptation is great. Yes, I would buy it. Same as why we still eat that piece of rib eye knowing a cow has died to satisfy our cravings. I have my own reasoning. Read this literal translation of a Chinese nursery rhyme about not wasting rice.
Ploughing the paddy fields under scorching midday sun.
sweat of the farmer dripping into the earth where the paddy grows. Who knows that the rice on our plate , every single grain comes with hard labour? Thus my philosophy, there is sacrifice in producing everything that we buy. Only, remember to treasure them when we possess them. Unknowingly, people sacrifice their lives to bring alot of things into our lives. However, if the sacrifice is the result of something immoral, as in the case of the diamond, if it was robbed and the owner lost her hand, its different. Then I will never buy it.

An awsome gem can be made from a few ounces of carbon. from any life-form. If you just watched a movie(Blood Diamond) and were moved/freaked by it well then welcome to the real world. Its not a pretty place, think of what goe's on to get the food on your plate... I have enough set aside so my son has his daddy as a gem. Check this out kiddo not a link but best I can for now. www.lifegem.com

Of course I wouldn't. I don't even buy diamonds (pretty, but not very utilitarian), and even if I did buy a diamond, I'd have to make sure that it was conflict-free.

Why not? Men and women die while falling trees, but, that doesn't stop us from buying wood or paper. Same thing, IMO. :)
